One for the NHS Foot Soldiers

from the ‘Locked-Down not Locked-Up, Writing Sessions’

There are many different reasons
why there is a ‘Great’ in front of ‘Britain’.
The Grit, Determination, and Courage
in the face of Adversity,
the ‘Fear No Foe’ and ‘Never Surrender’
hearts and minds
of its ‘Dogs In The Fight’ people.
I could sit here all day,
compiling a list as long as my arm…
but, at this precise moment in time,
which is May 2020,
I need only put three letters together
the NHS.
There are Red Cross Heroes,
dressed-up in white, green and blue,
‘In The Trenches’,
defiantly fighting,
and ‘Turning The Tide’ in our favour.
To see folk applauding them,
from Lockdown doorways and windows,
as they Battle-On about their business,
makes my heart swell-up inside with Pride.
Respect given where it is due… and it’s Due.
