Hope against hope

At a time when the world
Is riddled
With corruption
Religious bigotry, racism,
False propaganda with loud jingoism …

At a time when Your birth
Is celebrated with mirth,
Leaving your preaching,
Your suffering,
Your utmost importance
To human endurance,
Your concern for the lepers and the blind,
The hungry to whom food is hard to find …

At a time when many activists,
Scholars, poets, journalists,
Are being mercilessly tortured
Jailed and crucified …

We hope against hope, once again
Onto the beleaguered Earth, You’d come down
To uphold vanishing humanity and morality
From the fetters of apathy and rising barbarity …
