America, America

The President is enraged, Congress is enraged.
Turkey says no when told
to buy its jets only from the US

Iran is told to give up its missiles,
Korea its atomic bombs
Syria and Venezuela to surrender their leaders,
who offer their people improved lives
(through control of their oil, minerals).
I am ashamed for my country now unmasked:

eager to conquer the world.
Coups, sanctions, destruction of sovereign States:
Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Yemen…
It’s a big Pandora’s box,
more tyrants to say yes.
I’m ashamed for myself

when no Presidential candidate
is opposed to the wars
opposed to selling arms to nearly anyone
to a “national security threat”
defined as unwelcoming to corporate wishes.

I am a lover of freedom
and I hear only its fading ring,
Out Liberty Bell (long cracked) breaks.
