Buyer’s Remorse

So how is it in this
Country we’ve continued
On this downward slide,

In an election of
Epic distortions which
Nobody can deny?

We’ve just skidded off
The runway into the
Gritty great divide,

As the candidates do
Their political contortions
Before the republic’s eyes.

So how is it in this
Country steeped in
Nationalism and pride

Do we find ourselves
In jeopardy, and splitting
On both sides?

All across this nation there
Is a mounting rejection for
The true and tried,

Beleaguered with mass
Deflection, insurrection,
And genocide.

So how is it in this
Country decency is
Crumbling with the tide?

Slowly sinking, never
Thinking that we’re
Just in it for the ride.

For greater empires have
Tumbled, leaders mumble, all
The while smiling as they lied.

With buyer’s remorse may we
Correct our flawed course?
So sorry, your request has

Been denied!
