Ode to the First Cigarette of the Day

I sleep each night in a state of abstinence,
separated from the soothing caress of your kiss.

I wake in the morning, deeply rested,
giddy with anticipation for the first gentle touch
of your lit up burning embrace.

Yet I continue to work for a few hours
in the state of chastity,
building up the anticipation toward our next meeting.

Soon enough the moment of illumination arrives –
I singe your skin with a fire of divine love,
seeking the high realm of enlightenment you always deliver.

The initial puff upon your flaming flesh
enters my lungs with echoes from the far side of paradise.

Your fluffy wisp of smoke enters and fills my veins,
flowing through the excited blood,
sparking neuron synapses into a fevered pitch.

The song is one of sweet satisfaction –
two lovers reunited in cosmic entangled bliss.

I alternate between inhalations of your nicotine
and deep breaths of pure oxygen,
receiving a double dose of worldly pleasures.

As I walk along the path toward the park
your siren symphony begins to buzz
in the back of my brain with creative inspiration.

Your subtle intoxicating powers mix quite well
with the electric energy from the earlier dose of wheatgrass,
and I am sparked into full alertness by the muse.

No dirty chemicals from a laboratory concoction –
just pure tobacco from the ripe fields of the earth.

Ah, my friend, you are kind with your giving nature
which I happily receive in the spirit of gratitude and thankfulness.
