With Apologies to LC

Someone said
“Democracy is coming to the USA”
But it wasn’t democracy coming
It was fascism

Someone said
“We the people”
But the people became corporations
With dollar signs for souls

Someone said
“This is what change looks like”
But the change was more of the same thing
Everyone was already sick of

Someone said
“In God we trust”
But inscribed the words on the face
Of Mammon’s coin
