The Things That Go Unspoken

There is always war
There is always injustice
There is always prejudice
There is always an unfair draw
coming down the line with furious intentions

There is always a bad rap
There is always a fade out
There is always a lost cause
There is always less to the story
than we would like to believe

But I don’t care about all that

There is always a yawning grave
There is always a last remorse
There is always a tearful goodbye
There is always a word
we wish we had of spoken in the end

There is always a blank stare
There is always a painful memory
There is always a truth lost to the ages
There is always a path
that could have been taken toward glory

But I don’t care about all that

There is always a canceled check
There is always a lapse in judgment
There is always a second best
There is always a future
that gets thwarted in the chaos storm

There is always a nagging feeling
There is always a broken promise
There is always a stolen future
There is always a dream
that never quite comes to fruition

And I do care about it all
regardless of what I might have said
or forgotten to say
