Will AP Ever Stop Lying for Israel?

In opening a scathing dismantlement of historical myths on Israel-Palestine, world-renowned investigative journalist, John Pilger, recently wrote:

“When the truth is replaced by silence,” the Soviet dissident Yevgeny Yevtushenko said, “the silence is a lie.”

When life-saving — arguably genocide-preventing — information is systematically and deliberately misreported and concealed by the world’s largest news organizations, you can safely consider it, too, an act of lying.

On January 9, the Associated Press released a report titled “A look at the Islamic militant Hamas group.” Like virtually all AP reports on Israel-Palestine, it is loaded with examples of journalistic malpractice: omission of the most basic and vital facts, use of the most sensationalistic or flatly wrong language, contradictions, and untruths.

From the report:

NAME: Arabic for “zeal.” Is acronym of Harakat al-Muqawamah al-Islamiyyah, or Islamic Resistance Movement. Use first was in 1987 leaflet presaging launch of first Palestinian uprising against Israel, 1987-93.

GOAL: To establish Islamic theocracy in Israel, West Bank and Gaza Strip. Does not recognize state of Israel and committed to its destruction.

OPERATIONS: Built grass-roots base through preaching and network of health, education and welfare services in Gaza Strip and West Bank. Preaches armed resistance against Israel and has staged dozens of suicide bombings and other attacks, killing hundreds. Listed as terror group by U.S., European Union and Israel. (( “A look at the Islamic militant Hamas group,” The Associated Press, 1/9/9. Emphasis added.))

In the “NAME” point, AP admits that the name of the organization reveals its main purpose (resistance). So, why do AP reports always refer to Hamas as the “Islamic militant group” or “violent Islamic extremist group”? Why is AP so troubled by the phrase Islamic resistance movement, or even Palestinian resistance group? Is it the same reason AP doesn’t mention Hamas’ raison d’être: resisting the belligerent Israeli occupation of Palestine?

In the “OPERATIONS” point, AP firstly mentions Hamas’ social and political foundations; so again, why refer to Hamas as solely “militant”? Are armed, occupying, belligerent Israeli “troops” not also “militant”? And what of their religious designations? Are they not “Jewish militants”?

In the “GOAL” point, AP uses deceitfully sensationalistic language and contradicts what it reported in “NAME.” AP is basically lying here. Hamas’ primary stated goal is to liberate Palestine from the Israeli occupation. The establishment of an Islamic state (“theocracy”) is ancillary thereto. A theocracy was, in fact, established in the Levant more than 60 years ago; it is known as Israel (“the Jewish state”).

And when reporting that Hamas is “dedicated to [Israel’s] destruction,” AP omits Hamas’ peaceful and quite rational overtures these last few years, contradicting that sensationalistic and Orwellian inversion of reality. And what are the authoritative legal grounds for requiring Hamas to “recognize” Israel? There are none. And morally speaking, how can a stateless group of individuals be held at bay over their refusal to recognize an already established state? If anything, the roles should be reversed. Does Israel recognize statehood for Palestinians? Is Israel dedicated to the destruction of Palestine? Historical and ongoing facts on the ground (as opposed to loosely-interpreted and mostly irrelevant words in a charter) scream, “duh!”

AP mentions Hamas’ violent and arguably immoral tactics. Indeed, detonating a bomb, knowing that non-combatant civilians will die as a result, is immoral and deserving of public contempt. On the other hand, if AP’s readers knew that many, if not most, of those attacks were aimed at armed-to-the-teeth, belligerent “troops” and “settlers,” then perhaps AP’s readers would wonder whether there was no other feasible way of hitting legitimate military targets in resistance to the unbearable occupation. Furthermore, AP conceals another vital fact: Hamas, for more than four years now, has honored its commitment not to employ “suicide bombing” as a resistance tactic. ((The last time Hamas uncontroversially claimed responsibility was in August 2004; whereas, the attack in Dimona, Israel, on February 5, 2008, was contested, with armed wings of both Hamas and Fatah claiming responsibility. (See Haaretz)))

Other Huge and Unavoidable Questions

As an unspoken rule of thumb, AP’s reportage on Israel-Palestine is decidedly Israeli-centric. ((For examples, see the various articles and studies on AP in the “Analysis of Media Coverage of Israel/Palestine” section at IfAmericansKnew, and “AP’s Chronological Disorder: Israel-Gaza Edition,” by this author.))

How else can AP answer the following questions honestly without admitting to blatant journalistic fraud?

  • Why hasn’t AP released a similar report on the state of Israel? What is there to hide?
  • AP parrots the official (and dishonest) Israeli line, that Israel launched the current carpet-bombing and invasion of Gaza in order to stop the firing of rockets into Israel, as if it were the Gospel; so why won’t AP even mention the Palestinian reason for firing those rockets?
  • When reporting that Hamas et al. are considered terrorist organizations by the U.S., Israeli, and other governments, why not also mention that Hamas et al. consider certain U.S. and Israeli entities to be terrorist organizations? The Iranian Parliament actually made the designation official!
  • Why does AP insist that Hamas are clearly and uniquely the violent, extreme, and iron-grip faction — and that their political opposition, Fatah, are clearly the “moderates” — when moderation is defined by stuff like this, this, and this?
  • If it is so true, so relevant, and so worth constantly repeating that Hamas is dedicated to Israel’s destruction, then how, pray tell, should Hamas go about defeating the world’s 4th-most-powerful military, which is nuclear-armed and blindly backed and subsidized by the world’s preeminent superpower?

Perhaps AP takes its readers for such ignorant fools because AP, being “the world’s largest and most trusted independent source of news and information,” is supremely confident in its ability to get away with massively misinforming them to the point of utter state-worshiping servility.

In my part of the world we were brought up believing that certain people went up the mountain Sinai and talked face to face with God and God gave them His very Laws and trusted them with the task of being examples of a people living by His Laws and therefore they were His chosen people. We agrred that there is something very Godly about Mercy, Forgiveness, Remission, unconditional Love and Justice.

The inordinate revenge, the naked hatred, the disregard for life of others especially innocents (women and kids) convince me everyday that we are dealing with a people who have sunk far below the valley of mount Sinai.

It is not about Hamas rockets, its about the moral depravity and seared consciences that mete out overwhelming and indiscriminate brute force that is by far disproportionate to the “wrong” they try to “correct”.

Whether they manage to kill every Palestinian, they will never escape the deep and eternal moral questions that every man, child and woman in Israel and the future must answer. Much as anti-semitism is about putting a blanket accusation on a whole people; killing Arabs indiscriminately is genocide. It reveals a deep seated anti-human and anti-life -ism. No prophet dead or alive in Israel can lift up his head proudly and defend it.

It is one thing to be God very own paragon of holiness and obediance, and yet revel, champion and gloat in the worst in human revenge and hatred. This schizophrenic and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde split personality shows a deep seated spiritual crisis; a nati0nal moral crisis and glaring absence of spiritual leadership.

I certainly do not condone Hamas’ rockets but using the same principle you dont go about castrating the rapist, and bludgeon the guy who sold him cigerettes before the rape, and demolish his friend’s house from where he emerged before the alleged rape or lynch the guy who taught him how to drive because he arrived at the crime scene in a car or kill the shopkeeper who sold him the rope he used to tie the victim.. There is something fundamentally wrong in Israel. These issues of guilt by association were dealt with by the prophet Ezekiel many centuries ago. There is no one who can claim he or she does not know. All the prophets, seers, rabbis in Israel , cannot deal with the simple issue of gross inordinate revenge. Its the founding principle of Judeo-Christian jurisprudence. Justice without Mercy is unheard of.

In Genesis 4:23 there is guy (Lamech) who gloats (to his wives Adah and Zilla) about killing the guy who insulted him; in that passage God is said to be very upset about the wanton violence and indiscriminate shedding of blood. Its almost remniniscent of Hitler when he blietzkrieged poor vulnerable and non-threatening nations during WWII and then went for the Jews.

I think I am today a moral paragon and sage(thanks to the moral amnesia of Israel and its leaders) because I can challenge any Jew in Israel on a moral debate and I wouild enjoy to see how they try to defend the indefensible and how they stumble and fall on the very Laws that Moses received on their behalf millenia ago at the apex of mount Sinai.

There is no honour and glory in the slaughter of innocents, God’s Kingdom was never established on blatant murder, because it makes God a fool and a murderer. There is something socio-pathologically sick when I avenge 20 death with 900 deaths. It is a critical point at which whatever claim I may -place on moral jusitification, changes and places me instead in dire moral condemnation.

There will always be a better way in which the conflict in the Middle East can be peacefully resolved. By talking, giving, yielding and building the strong walls trust and respect. Rockets, American air-conditioned gunships will never build a lasting peace.

tell me please, you’re not serious about reconfirming hebrew lies about ‘god’ appearing to Moshe and giving him his/her laws?
torah the whorah had been written and rewritten by mad priests/liars over 2-3 millennia.
it is an adulterated book; full of intolerance, hatred, rage, etc.
the mad priests of today are no different than the mad priests of yester years.
and if ‘god’ existed, why wld she or he chose hebrews only and also speak hebrew only and have only hebrews as her or its spokespeople and prophets.
prophets, whose silly ‘prophecies’ were written after the fact.
let’s stop believing in such evil as bible, koran, and torah! all three of these Meine Kaemfen have caused much evil. thnx

Bozh take a deep breath you’re going to be alright. When anybody knows of the boat going into Gaza please put a comment.

A group of protesters, doctors and lawmakers abandoned a bid to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and returned to Cyprus on Monday after their boat experienced engine trouble, a Free Gaza spokeswoman said.
Karin Pally told The Associated Press that a generator blew three hours into the 24-hour trip, forcing the 66-foot (20-meter), Greek-flagged vessel to return to port in Larnaca.

Damn what is the falsest way to get this boat and these brave people to Gaza. Humanitarian aid Ted, Bill, Warren, Mr. Murdoch. CNN go for it.

Question: Will AP ever stop lying for Israel?

Answer: Nope. Not until that first airborne nuclear warhead can be seen just past the Statue of Liberty.

Logically you can almost guarantee that all atrocities, war and manipulations come from a power / financial motivation covered in a religious overtone. The big banking dynasties of this millennium are behind all of them it seems. We find the evidence of this in the outcomes of each manipulation; the general populous are lambs to the slaughter in this. We are a blood sacrifice for an ultimate aim of total control. The more hate sown between Jews, Hindus, Muslims and Christians the better. The more one nation rises against another the closer we get to worldwide conflict, the bankers and arms peddlers win again because they supply all sides. The more the worldwide economy collapses the better a single currency will sound. These truths are leaving the arena of theory and entering the realms of fact.

Using any terms around zionist ideologies, people falsely equate anti-zionism with anti-semitism (more spin). What I mean when I mention zionist ideologies is not Jews (as many Hassidic Jews are abhorrent of these ideologies) but every strata of society, neo-cons, mormons, jehovahs witnesses, christians, muslims, hindus, freemasons – ALL the upper echelons of religions, finance and politics are infested with racist, zionistic idealogies.

To decide that all Jews are Zionists is to do exactly what they want you to do – they are laughing at you because you are now exactly the same as them, a racists thug! Many Jews are against Zionist ideologies, I am a gentile researcher who has seen much evidence of this.

    anti elitist / anti zionist
