Inventing the Enemy

The mainstream media’s bitter campaign against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during his trip to New York City in late September was a superb study in what Noam Chomsky calls “manufacturing consent”–the all-but-unanimous media verdict on a given issue that serves the interests of the U.S. ruling establishment.

In an editorial, the “liberal” New York Times set the tone, denouncing Ahmadinejad as “loathsome” for “his call to wipe Israel off the map and his country’s sponsorship of terrorism. Equally loathsome is Iran’s denial of basic civil rights to its citizens, including the right of free speech.”

Columbia University President Lee Bollinger did the Times one better by introducing Ahmadinejad to a campus audience as a “showing all the signs of a petty and cruel dictator.”

But that wasn’t enough to satisfy New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and New York City Council member David Weprin. The two Democrats have threatened to withhold millions of dollars in public funds from Columbia University for inviting Ahmadinejad at all.

Only a few media outlets caught the irony of politicians threatening Columbia’s finances for inviting Ahmadinejad to speak–while denouncing the Iranian president for his disregard for free speech.

New York’s tabloid newspapers denounced Ahmadinejad as a “monster” and the “new Hitler” in giant headlines, and others in the press repeated the Bush administration’s claim that Iran’s nuclear energy program is aimed at producing nuclear weapons.

Further down the media food chain, Greg Gutfeld, host of the show Redeye on Fox News, wrote: “So the foul-smelling fruitbat Ahmadinejad spoke at that crack house known as Columbia University.”

Nowhere in the media was there any serious examination of the allegations made against Iran–nor any questioning of the larger U.S. aims at work in the demonization of Ahmadinejad.

Nuclear weapons

Politicians and media commentators almost universally treated Ahmadinejad as a nuclear maniac intent on obtaining weapons of mass destruction.

But Iran has only insisted on its right to develop a nuclear energy program–as guaranteed to it under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which Iran has signed, though U.S. allies Israel, India and Pakistan have not.

Mohammad ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which oversees inspections of Iran’s nuclear sites, repeated again last month that the agency has been unable to find credible evidence of an Iranian nuclear weapons program, including any sign of underground production sites or forbidden radioactive substances. ElBaradei has called for a three-month waiting period before the UN Security Council pursues further measures.

Second, even if Iran “got a nuclear weapon, it couldn’t use it except in desperate self-defense as both Israel and the United States have many nuclear bombs and superior delivery systems, so that any offensive use of its nuclear weapon(s) would entail Iranian national suicide,” wrote media experts Edward Herman and David Peterson.

“It may be recalled that Saddam used his WMD only against Iran and his Kurds, but not even in self-defense during the 1991 Persian Gulf war attack on Iraq by the United States and its ‘coalition’–the former use was with U.S. approval, the latter case of non-use was because Saddam would have suffered disproportionate retaliation by the United States and his restraint followed.

“This point is not made in the establishment media, possibly because it would seem to qualify the Iran nuclear menace. The media also do not draw the further inference that an Iranian nuclear weapon would therefore serve only as a means of self-defense and to give Iran a little more leverage in dealing with the nuclear power states–the United States and Israel–that openly threaten it.

“Instead, the media, following the official line, talk about an Iranian nuclear weapon as ‘destabilizing,’ when what they really mean is that the Israeli-U.S. continuous war-making, ethnic cleansing, and deliberate and effective destabilization of the Middle East would be made more difficult.”

Opposing Israel

The media’s coverage of Ahmadinejad’s visit usually began with his supposed vow to “wipe Israel off the map.” The problem with this oft-reported fact? Ahmadinejad never said it.

“Ahmadinejad did not use that phrase in Persian,” Middle East expert Juan Cole wrote on his blog earlier this year. “He quoted an old saying of Ayatollah Khomeini calling for ‘this occupation regime over Jerusalem’ to ‘vanish from the page of time.’ Calling for a regime to vanish is not the same as calling for people to be killed…

“If Ahmadinejad is a genocidal maniac who just wants to kill Jews, then why are there 20,000 Jews in Iran, with a member of parliament in Tehran? Couldn’t he start at home if that was what he is really about?”

Ahmadinejad has questioned the fact of the Nazi Holocaust of Jews during the Second World War and echoed the views of some of the world’s more vile anti-Semites.

But, says Jonathan Steele, a columnist for Britain’s Guardian newspaper, the claims about Ahmadinejad’s military threats against Israel are wrong. “He was calling for an end to the occupation of Jerusalem at some point in the future,” Steele wrote. “The ‘page of time’ phrase suggests he did not expect it to happen soon.”

Cole reports that “some Western wire service [apparently] mistranslated the phrase as ‘wipe Israel off the map,’ which sounds rather more violent than calling for regime change…These propaganda efforts against Iran and Ahmadinejad also depend on declining to enter into evidence anything else he has ever said–like that it would be wrong to kill Jews!

“So here are some things Ahmadinejad has said that make clear his intentions, and which are translated by the United States government Open Source Center. He is hostile to Israel. He’d like to see regime change (apparently via a referendum on the shape of the government ruling over geographical Palestine, in which all ‘original’ residents of any religion would get a vote).

“Calling for a referendum on the dissolution of a government is not calling for genocide. Ahmadinejad also says he has no objection to a Jewish state in and of itself, he just thinks it should be located in, say, German territory set apart for the purpose, rather than displacing Palestinians from their homes. He may be saying unrealistic things; he is not advocating killing Jews qua Jews, or genocide.

“Note that Ahmadinejad…compares his call for an end to the Zionist regime ruling over Jerusalem to the Western call for the dissolution of the old Soviet Union. Was Ronald Reagan inciting to genocide when he called for an end of the Soviet regime?”

Meddling in Iraq

The Bush administration accuses Iran of “meddling” in Iraq by providing explosives and other supplies to Iraq’s Shiite militia forces. This “meddling” is given as a reason for both U.S. threats of war against Iran and its continuing occupation in Iraq.

Unnoticed by the media is the double standard–the U.S. claims the right to put 170,000 troops in Iraq, while Iran is considered a “foreign force,” even though it would be far more affected by events in Iraq than the U.S.

The irony is that the U.S. occupation is the cause of Iran’s expanded influence in Iraq. “When U.S. forces ousted Saddam’s regime from the south in early April 2003, the Badr Organization infiltrated from Iran to fill the void left by the Bush administration’s failure to plan for security and governance in post-invasion Iraq,” wrote Peter Galbraith, a former policy official under Bill Clinton.

“In the months that followed, the U.S.-run Coalition Provisional Authority appointed Badr Organization leaders to key positions in Iraq’s American-created army and police.

“In short, George W. Bush had from the first facilitated the very event he warned would be a disastrous consequence of a U.S. withdrawal from Iraq: the takeover of a large part of the country by an Iranian-backed militia. And while the president contrasts the promise of democracy in Iraq with the tyranny in Iran, there is now substantially more personal freedom in Iran than in southern Iraq.”

Given the black market in weapons (including U.S. weapons) and the large amount of arms in circulation after decades of war (also backed by the U.S.), it’s not even certain that whatever smuggling has gone on represents Iranian government policy.

In any case, the U.S. has greatly exaggerated the impact of weapons that crossed the border between Iran and Iraq. “I thought Petraeus went way beyond what Iran is doing inside Iraq today,” former CIA analyst and chief UN weapons inspector in Iraq David Kay told investigative journalist Seymour Hersh. “When the White House started its anti-Iran campaign, six months ago, I thought it was all craziness.

“Now it does look like there is some selective smuggling by Iran, but much of it has been in response to American pressure and American threats–more a ‘shot across the bow’ sort of thing, to let Washington know that it was not going to get away with its threats so freely.

“Iran is not giving the Iraqis the good stuff–the anti-aircraft missiles that can shoot down American planes and its advanced anti-tank weapons.”

Whose war threats?

In late September, Newsweek reported that Dick Cheney had considered encouraging Israel to launch limited missile strikes against Iranian nuclear reactors in the hopes that Iran’s retaliation would give the U.S. the pretext to launch its own attack.

But the characterization of Ahmadinejad as a madman has cemented the idea that Iran represents the real threat.

As Iran’s president, Ahmadinejad actually has little power over foreign policy, and he remains a largely unpopular figure. In reality, he deviates little from the positions that Iran’s more reform-minded clerics have held for years–aside from his disgusting claims that the Holocaust didn’t happen.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is the country that has floated war scenarios against Iran, already committed an illegal war of aggression against a sovereign nation (the same crime for which the Nazis were prosecuted at Nuremberg), and stationed tens of thousands of troops in Iran’s backyard.

The Bush administration’s leaked Nuclear Posture Review in 2002 revealed that the U.S. had made plans for the use of nuclear first-strike weapons against countries such as Iran, Iraq and Syria.

And the U.S. has a long history as the aggressor against Iran, engineering a 1953 coup against a democratically elected leader and backing its former ally Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s.

Since 2001, Iran’s regional influence has increased, but largely because of U.S. strategic blunders, not its own efforts. The U.S. invaded Afghanistan and ousted the Taliban, Iran’s rival to the east–and then deposed Saddam Hussein, Iran’s competitor to the west.

In May 2003, after being named part of the “axis of evil” along with Iraq and North Korea, Iran offered a deal to the U.S. that it would halt its nuclear energy program, cooperate with IAEA inspectors, support the establishment of a non-religious government in Iraq, cooperate in the fight against al-Qaeda, and end material support to Palestinian groups such as Hamas.

In exchange, the U.S. was asked to remove Iran from the “axis of evil” and terrorism lists, help Iran get access to nuclear energy technology, support payment of reparations to Iran from the Iran-Iraq war, and cease support for Mojahedin-e Khalq, the anti-Iranian terrorist group based in northern Iraq.

But the administration, puffed up with a sense of its own power following Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” speech, rejected Iran’s offer out of hand.

Rather than admit its own strategic errors, the Washington establishment–with the mainstream media’s complicity–has returned to the same game plan used to get the war on Iraq: exaggerate the imminent threat to U.S. security of a “new Hitler,” make unfounded accusations about weapons of mass destruction, and portray its own aggression as an effort to bring peace and democracy to the Middle East.

This new set of war lies has to be exposed and opposed at every turn.

Yesterday on KQED Forum host Michael Krasny interviewed Wesley Clark who announced that he was endorsing Hillary Clinton for president. In the course of their discussion, Krasny (thought to be a liberal) parroted the line that “Iran is a nuclear threat.” In the following hour, Krasny unashamedly asked Brooke Gladstone of NPR’s On the Media if the media had learned anything from its mistakes in the run-up to the Iraq war.

In Scott Pelley’s interview of Ahmadinejad on 60 Minutes recently, he introduced the segment by by saying “The man who questions the truth behind the Holocaust is expected to demand, once again, the elimination of Israel.” Interestingly, the mentioning of Israel was thenceforth scrupulously eliminated from the final video product. It was discussed, however, in the released interview transcripts– but most Americans will never know what Ahmadinejad said.

Narrating, Pelley also said “we [60 Minutes] wanted to know about the growing evidence that Iranian weapons and bomb components are being used against U.S. forces in Iraq.” Just then, 60 Minutes chose to show a U.S. tank being blown up!

The narration (and the tendentious video, of course) was excluded from the released transcripts.

The alternative, progressive media has been little better reporting on Ahmadinejad and the reasons why war threatens.

Even more troubling to me is how comment forums, thankfully not yet this one, have been inundated with troll comments by people who outrageously vilify– Israel! (as if to underscore the unreasonableness and irrational radicalism of anyone who wants more judicious and factual dialog). I can’t help but suspect that a covert, propagandistic info-war is being waged against the American people.

Where are the voices to point out that a war with Iran will have horrible repurcussions on Israelis (in addition to everyone else in the Middle East). These voices are seldom, if ever, heard.

Ahmadinejad by all accounts is no savory character.

I find it interesting that he and Bush both have @ 20% popularity ratings. is it possible that both are being served by all the sabre-rattling?

The above article about Iran’s President being a murderer in Vienna is another one of Zionist media plants. The World Political Review looks like a Zionist front and it seems that an interview with the secret agent “D”–sounds like Judith Miller’s “secret agent” before the war on Iraq telling the world about the hidden WMDs–was done in 2005 and is now being conveniently translated into English. Why? Because the dice is loaded against Iran, and now is the time to make war on Iran. The Zionist apparatus swings into action to structure the public opinion by attacking the Iranian president. Wait for this story to be in the mainstream media in the US in the near future.

I agree with much that Mr. Ruder writes, but think it necessary to point out that he himself is either participating in creating consent, or yielding to the creation. “Denying the Holocaust” is among the most heinous of social crimes in the Western world, and is a broad grouping of actions by people such as Raul Hilberg and the director of Yad Vashem. Ridiculous? Not at all. The “sacred elements” of the Holocaust include : 1) Six million dead, 2) Homicidal gas chambers, and 3) Formal, organized plan of extermination. Hilberg admitted the absence of a plan, and many agencies admit the inaccuracy of the “six million” figure. Is this “denial”? It depends on who is questioning the accuracy, and who is doing the accusing. Those “branded” as Holocaust deniers” contain a spectrum of skeptics, political critics, and true anti-Semites. Lumping these groups together contributes to the “manufacture of consent”, or more accurately manufacturing an unreflective horror of those questioning a set of historical events of 1939-1945. These events have been transformed into an unchallengable “sacred story”. For myself, I know many Jews (and others) died. I also know that using hydrogen cyanide gas as an instrument of mass murder would be enormously dangerous and messy, endangering the “clean-up” crew with contact contamination, and leaving a scene filthy with vomit, urine and excrement. Many methods of murder of Jews were mentioned at the end of WWII; most have since been discredited, and the sites of mass murder have never been examined forensically. They have already become unassailable shrines.

Even Mr. Ruder needs to expand his “spectrum of thinkable thought” (Chomsky’s contribution).

Who else is sick of all the Holocaust talk? Its only pirpose is to make zionist jews seem victims.
Ahmadinejad is one of the few world leaders who is clearly aware and has the courage to call israel a war criminal, and remind us the ‘holocaust’ is beging used strategicaly by war criminals.
Meanwhile the real monsters in Israel and US are being ignored and given aid and support by the media. No wonder the interent is replacing the media.

Ahmadinejad is an elected president of Iran who has criticized the crimes of the Zionism and state of Israel. The Zionists are trying to implement a “map change” in the Middle East and beyond to save an entity which has caused so much blood shed in Palestine and elsewhere in the region since its inception by the colonists. The Zionists such as Bollinger, Colombia University, tried to insult Ahmadinejad and presents him as a “dictator” but he failed miserably. His unacceptable treatment of an elected president who holds no significant power in Iranian politics brought Ahmadinejed much support even among some of his critics. For example, the Iranian academic society condemns Lee Bollinger‘s remarks and they announced: “Ahmadinejad was elected in a free tow-level election and by the nation’s direct votes.” In this show as Haaretz wrote: “Israel was the big looser.” The Zionists are determined to do anything to save the racist state of Israel but as Professor Joel Kovel, Edward Said, Cohen, Menuhin and many others have explained they believe the only solution to end the blood shed is ONE STATE FOR ALL as Iran have said 60 years ago. Iran and other countries such as India, China and majority of the African countries did not vote for the partition of Palestine for good reason. The colonists’ plan has brought the Middle East nothing but massacre, rapes, dispossession, and economic insecurities and has generated distrust of the west intention. The Zionists who spread lies about Ahmadinejad never learn from their humiliation of the past when they tried to fool Americans and the rest of the international community to believe Ahmadinejad was part of the hostage taker, or Ahmadinejad supports a dress code for the Jews which mark out Jews with a “Yellow Star”. This lie was initially published in last Friday’s edition of Canada’s “National Post” by a petty servant of the Zionists in name of Amir Taheri, which ran alongside the story a 1935 photograph of a Jewish businessman in Berlin with a yellow six-pointed star sewn on his overcoat, as required by Nazi legislation at the time. Taheri’s story was reprinted by the New York Post, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, and picked up by the Jerusalem Post, which also featured a photo of a yellow star from the Nazi era over a photo of Iranian President Ahmadinejad. Later, the Canadian “National Post” had to apologize to the world for the published untrue story.
The Zionists are so desperate to save itself by manufacturing lies to put one group against the other and destabilize Iran and other Islamic countries such as Sudan where to divide these countries into smaller pieces to create “allies” in support of the Zionist state. Now, one of these Zionists who is hiding behind a butcher such as Sharon is given us piece of information published by one of these Zionist propaganda tool in name of “World Politics Review” regarding a lie about Ahmadinejad involvement in “murder in Vienna” assassination of the Kurdish leaders. Everyone knows Kurds have close ties with Israel and Mossad and are engaged in spying activities for Israel and US. Israel is providing Kurds with military training and sends them to Iranian border to attack Iranians so Iran reacts and hopefully this turns into a bigger war to bring US in the conflict. The Kurdish leaders have said many times in the past that they want the occupying forces remain in Iraq indefinitely, the only group, and by saying so they have bought anger of the population of the region and beyond for themselves.
The Zionists never stop lying but they must know they can not continue these lies for ever because the international community, including some of the former Zionists, have came to this conclusion that the world can not go on like this anymore and they have to back off and get lost.

It is a shame that NYC has become a bastion of Zionism. Even Seymour Hersh admitted such during his recent appearance on Democracy Now! It is ironic that people still think of racism as being a “southern” problem as with all the focus on Jena. It was good to see people take a strong stance against white racism.

However a similar stance is needed against Zionism especially in the “north” in places like New York.

Having once lived in NYC especially during the Koch years, Zionism help to usher in a visceral reaction against people of color (blacks and brown as well as Arabs and muslim). Black leader who tried to bring this to light were branded as “anti-semetic” or as “black racist”. Thus Zionist will use all available means to smear challengers. It is a very ugly practice and jamie’s posts are a continuation of the same tactics.

Zionism is the racism of the 21st century in the United States and must be confronted. Wouldn’t it be ironic if a group of organizers from the “south” travel by bus to New York City on a campaign to end Zionism.

Unfortunately Zionism has sprouted roots among southern evangelicals who needed a new group to overtly hate after overtly preaching against black people became unpopular.

Because of her history of racism, Zionism has found a home in the United States.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

The New York metropolitan area is home to the largest Jewish population in the world outside Israel. New York’s Jewish population in 2001 was approximately 1.97 million, 1.4 million more than in Jerusalem but 600,000 less than in Gush Dan, Israel’s largest metropolitan area; however, Tel Aviv proper (non-metro/within municipal limits) has smaller population than the Jewish population of New York City proper, making New York the largest Jewish community in the world.[[52] In 2002, an estimated 972,000 Ashkenazic Jews lived in New York City and constituted about 12% of the city’s population. New York City is also home to the worldwide headquarters of the Hasidic Chabad-Lubavitch group and the Bobover and Satmar branches of Hasidism.

The Jewish presence in New York City dates to the 1600s when a Jewish community relocated from Recife seeking freedom of worship. Major immigration of Jews to New York started in the 1880s, with the increase of antisemitism in Central and Eastern Europe. The number of Jews in New York City soared throughout the beginning of the 20th century and reached a peak of 2 million in the 1950s, when Jews constituted one-quarter of the city’s population. New York City’s Jewish population then began to decline because of low fertility rates and migration to suburbs and other states, particularly California and Florida. A new wave of Jewish immigrants from the former Soviet Union began arriving in the 1980s and 1990s. Many have settled in south Brooklyn and in parts of the Bronx; specifically middle-class neighborhoods, such as Riverdale.

The first Jewish immigrants settled mainly in the tenement houses of the Lower East Side. Today New York City’s Jewish population is dispersed among all the boroughs; Brooklyn’s Jewish population in 2003 was estimated 456,000, and Manhattan’s at 243,000.

While 3 quarters of New York Jews are not religious, the Orthodox community is rapidly growing, while the numbers of Conservative and Reform Jews are declining.

Like the Irish, the Jewish community has played an important role in New York City’s politics; Jewish voters traditionally vote in large numbers and have often supported politically liberal ideas.

The article would have it that Iran has not threatened to destroy Israel. That, of course, is not the case. In fact, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) reported that, in its English edition, that “Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday called for Israel to be ‘wiped off the map.’” Ahmadinejad has made the same threat on a number of other occasions. I might add that rallies he has attended in which sign and sign read “Death to Israel.”

Evidently, the Iranians are not sending valentines to the Israelis but, instead, are arousing hatred and calls for death. Not very nice stuff.

As for the kindness of the Iranian revolutionaries, here is some of what According to the late Ayatollah Khomeini:

    Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini

Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does that mean that Muslim should sit back until they are devoured by [the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill the [the non-Muslims], put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]. Does this mean sitting back until [non-Muslims] overcome us? Islam says: Kill in the service of Allah those who may want to kill you! Does this mean that we should surrender [to the enemy]? Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to paradise, which can be opened only for holy warriors!

There are hundreds of other [Koranic] psalms and hadiths [sayings of the prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all that mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.

Islam makes it incumbent on all adult males, provided they are not disabled and incapacitated, to prepare themselves for the conquest of [other] countries so that the writ of Islam is obeyed in every country in the world…

Source: “Islam Is Not a Religion of Pacifists,” by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini (1942).

Nice guys, unless, of course, you are not on their side.

My first effort at quoting came out wrong. Here is the missing quote:

Islam’s jihad is a struggle against idolatry, sexual deviations, plunder, repression, and cruelty. The war waged by [non-Muslim] conquerors, however, aims at promoting lust and animal pleasures. They care not if whole countries are wiped out and many families left homeless. But those who study jihad will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world. All the countries conquered by Islam or to be conquered in the future will be marked for everlasting salvation. For they shall live under [God’s law]

    To jaime,

Power in the U.S. is held by a minority of people and Jews are not the only demographic group supportive of Zionism. Clearly Hillary Clinton is not Jewish. However Zionism does attract those racist element that were never addressed by the Civil Rights movement and has only thrived and flourished.

Thanks for the totally irrelevant demographic breakdown of Jews in NYC. It’s not numbers that make NYC a bastion of Zionism. It’s the disproportionate power of the numbers that do support Zionism.

That same was also true of white racism in the south. Nice try but all it does is expose your own racist beliefs.

Oh please you guys are so relentless. This misquote has been repudiated for fallacy that it is for one and the fact that Palestine has been “wiped off the map” means nothing to you. Iran is NO threat to Israel but Israel is a major threat to all the nations in the Middle East because of its racist ideology of expansion, domination and hegemony. Look at what they did to Lebanon last year and Lebanon was not only recovering from years of war but also become a major tourist destination rivaling that of Israel as well as becoming a destination for other trade and economic activity.

Well, well phone number, PO BOx and all-

The Demographics of NYC was well known – especially after the ‘Hymie town’ quote by Rev. Jesse Jackson. I am pretty sure a lot of people – even ones that post here FOR Ahmadiejad – do not necessarly want to become the ‘best of friends’ per se with Iran. However, I am pretty sure – that a LOT of Americans are tired of subsidizing Israel with OUR tax dollars.
I mean – hey you guys control most of the finances of the world – so why don’t you guys STOP sucking away American tax payers money. Seriousy- and I do mean seriously.

Let not forget CRAZY EDDIE amongst a host of other criminals such as Jack Grubman and Abby Cohen as well as dozens of others of the SAME ilk.

The botton line in my view is – people would be a lot less angry and sympathetic to Israel – if half the criminals from the Jewish community didn’t just ‘happen’ to have dual citizenship in Israel, and most importantly if Israel would stop acting like a welfare mom with 60 kids both in and out of the US. I mean you people need to pass the collection plate and spend less time on the internet. Have some pride and stop asking for handouts from so many governments and actually support ISRAEL with YOUR own money..

    Dear Jaime (Hymie) and others:
Please read the article CAREFULLY – like the fourth paragraph- which says :
Last month, a man broke into OPEN safety deposit boxes in an ABM Amro bank in Antwerp’s diamond district and stole 120,000 karats of diamonds. The suspect had been a regular customer at the bank for the past year, and provided the name of an Argentinian. Authorities believe that the suspect was using a false identity since it was discovered that a passport in the same name was stolen in Israel several years ago.

Which OTHER communnity actually has this leeway?!?!?

Puh-lease Jaime – quit the internet – and join the REAL world – getting a job might help too.

Even Sy Hersh acknowledges what what Zionist propaganda tries to conceal as quoted this weed on Democracy Now. It reveals the truth about power and money and influence of Zionism on the U.S. Congress. You can read it here on Counterpunch

Hersh’s response: “Money. A lot of the Jewish money from New York. Come on, let’s not kid about it. A significant percentage of Jewish money, and many leading American Jews support the Israeli position that Iran is an existential threat. And I think it is as simple as that. … That’s American politics circa 2007.”

You deny what Ahmadinejad actually stated, relying on a literal, but not an accurate, translation. deadbeat:

First, from Iran’s state-owned Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting – available still online:

Tehran, Oct 26 – Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday called for Israel to be ‘wiped off the map’.” Moreover, according to that official website: “‘As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map,’ said Ahmadinejad, referring to the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini.

    Here is the URL:

Second, from President Ahmadinejad’s own official website:

Speaking at a conference dubbed “World without Zionism’ here Wednesday which was attended by thousands of students, he said any country which acknowledges the Zionist regime will actually be acknowledging the surrender and defeat of the Islamic world. He further expressed his firm belief that the new wave of confrontations generated in Palestine and the growing turmoil in the Islamic world would in no time wipe Israel away.

Presumably, the President of Iran would correct the error if it really were an error. He does not and will note because it, not the literal translation, is the correct translation. And, it is exactly what he meant. Otherwise, he would not stand at rallies where his government hands out signs that say “Death to Israel.”

    From the LA Times:

TEHRAN — Dozens of students opposed to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s human rights record confronted the leader and his supporters today at the country’s most prestigious university.

The students, defying a broad government crackdown on DISSENT, accused Ahmadinejad of corruption and discrimination and chanted “death to the dictator.”

Ahmadinejad, reviled in the West for denying the Holocaust and calling for the destruction of Israel, cuts a divisive figure at home. His government has tolerated little DISSENT, arresting students, purging free-thinking professors and cracking down on young men and women wearing Western-style clothing.

Who is the enemy? Do you know the difference between an internationalist socialist and a national socialist? The factory workers, the teachers, the college students of Iran are the socialists of Iran ! The members of the ruling class of Iran are those who, so far, have murdered more Iranian socialists than the puppet shah! Do you know why? Because they believe in “sacred capital”! Read the position of the Iranian socialists so you can avoid another capitalist mistake!

For those Zionists who insist Ahmadinejad “wants to wipe Israel off the map” I must say read the quote again:

“The establishment of the Zionist regime was a move by the world oppressor against the Islamic world,” the President told a conference in Tehran entitled ‘the world without Zionism.”

If Ahmadinejad wants to destroy Palestine, now is called Israel, why a conference on “Zionism” and not on “Israel.” Beside Iran never voted for division of Palestine and has always said, before and after the revolution, one country for all. Iran like billions of people all over the world is against Zionism and has no problems with the Jews. In fact Zionism is the one which intends to wipe the Jews off the map through its racist ideology combine with act of terrorism to maintain a partied system which has already become illegitimate. Facts on the ground show very clearly who has wiped whom off the map. It is the time to stop repeating lies and deception to cover your crimes against humanity.
