Comments Etiquette

Dissident Voice is dedicated to being a venue where all viewpoints can be expressed. The DV comments section welcomes viewpoints from all visitors to the website. People might not always like what is posted, but everyone should feel invited and encouraged to join the discussion, share their opinions, and engage in debate.

To ensure this, the following guidelines should be adhered to:

1. No racist or prejudiced comments. This includes anti-Arab, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic comments (and yes, Christian-bashing too). This includes comments that disparage, intimidate or attack a person based on perceived ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.

2. No excessive use of obscenity.

3. No personal attacks. We encourage spirited, passionate debate, but if you have to resort to vicious personal attack, you’re not advancing the discussion. Stay on the issues.

4. No imposture. You can use any pseudonym you like, but do not misrepresent yourself as someone you’re not.

5. Stay on the issues. Out of respect to the writer, the comments should be pertinent to the article.

6. The DV comments section should not be used to vent personal grievances against other websites. If you were banned elsewhere, had posts deleted elsewhere, etc., the DV comments section is not the venue to complain.

7. Do not repost long articles in the comments section. Write a summary sentence or two and add a link.

8. Comments should not exceed the writer’s article in length. Overly long comments might not post.

9. CAPS are the online equivalent of shouting. So please use lower case when commenting.

If we judge that you have broken one of these rules you might be banned. We will ban the IP address you are posting from and if you try to post from another IP address we will ban that as well.

Thanks for adhering to the DV guidelines for the comments section and ensuring DV is a website where all may feel welcomed.
