“Redskins”: Trail of Tears

The man with soft
skin and bloody
hands will not,
shall not capitulate
to the descendants
of long ago crushed
and pulverized
peoples. To those
vanished with
steel forever
into black silence.
This man called
Eyes of Death
will not, shall not
offer up reparations
to the offspring
of those enslaved
and butchered,
robbed of their
lands, their
Mother sold
to the highest
bidder. Or even
change the name
of oppression
violating a
thousand years
of pride and dignity.
Conquerors hand
the defeated
nothing but
contempt. Still,
just once, a little
mercy, a little
Is that too much
to ask for?
