Don’t blame the messenger! Assange’s revelations do not “push nothing other than a proliferation of the U.S. neoliberal imperial project”. They show US officials pushing nothing other than a proliferation of the U.S. neoliberal imperial project, which, of course, is what you would expect US officials to do, and if Mr Fenley expects those officials to set out in diplomatic cables anything that is “damaging to U.S. imperial power”, then it is he who is the “neophyte in matters of intelligence and geopolitic schemes”. What is interesting is precisely the cherrypicking and sexing up that the cables reveal. I wouldn’t exclude the possibility that the cables may have been deliberately leaked to create the impression of an omnipotent US with the whole world in its pocket except for a few officially-designated enemies. But that has been laid on so thick that it is not credible which, in its turn, suggests a US elite which sees its power evaporating and is increasingly depserate. Thus, even if Assange was manipulated, or is himself part of the manipulation, the scam has blown up in the faces of the manipulators. No need to look the gift horse in the mouth!
