Uri makes a sad plea: blame for Israeli nationalistic policies should be assigned to the Religious in Israel and not to the “enlightened” irreligious majority. Thus the tortured mind of one who has spit at his ancestor’s religion, expected love from the world in return, and found only hatred. Left with nothing, and dangling in the wind, such people find themselves groveling for approval from those whose hatred i,s at its core, directed not toward any particular policy, but toward the very essence of the Jew.

As usual, avnery fails to address the core problem. Whether israeli Jews are ultra religious or secular, 94% of them approved of both the Gaza war crimes and the war crimes of the attack on the Mavi Marmara. This was not due to religion, but a failure of israeli society to evolve beyond the level of the american confederacy or nazi Germany and enter into the 20th century, let alone the 21st. The “original sin” of israel was not the mixing of religion and state, it was rampant prejudice and greed and it remains so.

The original sin, that brought about this conflict, is the viscious pre-determined Zionist design to expel and dispossess the native of this land, the Palestinians, who have lived in this land since history began, for thousands of years, and not only for 13 centuries, as Avnery suggests. The claim of Jewish superiority, to the gentiles, that some Jews claim, is offensive and seems to harbour the racist practices and discrimination that Israel enacts against the Palestinian people, be they in the occupied territories or citizens of the state of Israel. The claim they use that God promised them this land defies credibility. I, for one, was not aware that God is a real-estate agent that can apportion land to those he favours, according God with racist discriminating instincts. These Zionist policies are now emanating in the demand that the Palestinians recognise Israel as a Jewish state and swear the oath of loyalty to this state of the Jewish people, denying its non-Jewish citizens their basic rights.

Fundamentally, these demands clearly indicate that Netanyahu and his Zionist friends have no interest in peace and are simply creating pretexts for prolonging this conflict, in continuity.

yes, i also think that ‘zionists’ [an admixture of peoples] hated ‘jewish’ [actually hebrew] religion or cult. who does not? don’t all or most non-hebraic peoples do that?

however, i assert, ‘zionists’ expected return of just such cultists; tho, despised or even feared?
but before that cld happen they ‘found’ israel. but before that they begged churchill, balfour, rothschield, tsar nicholas, kaiser wilhelm, popes, et al to help them bring western, eastern ‘civilization’ to ‘backward’ palestinians.
but before that and long time ago the cultists had to spread from around caspian sea to also some richer areas; so as to get rich and influential with other criminal minds that ruled all of europe with iron fist.
but before that they had to greet each other with , see u next year in jerusalem.
so, ‘zionism’ had been born at least a millennium ago.
so, what is avneri’s message, instruction, or cause for ‘creation’ or ‘recreation’ of israel? he, self calls that “foundation of israel” in an empty israel as well???
