That old stager would be well familiar with Britain’s standard method of appearing to respond to public concern by ‘launching an inquiry’ – a euphemism for doing absolutely nothing, or preparing a sizeable quantity of whitewash – or both. Ask the good people of Derry who waited almost half a century for justice for Bloody Sunday. They’re still waiting.
