This is the true face of the war in Afghanistan

'Twelve American soldiers face charges over a secret "kill team" that allegedly blew up and shot Afghan civilians at random and collected their fingers as trophies.

Five of the soldiers are charged with murdering three Afghan men who were allegedly killed for sport in separate attacks this year. Seven others are accused of covering up the killings and assaulting a recruit who exposed the murders when he reported other abuses, including members of the unit smoking hashish stolen from civilians.'

The author makes a good point: as people become more sophisticated, it is increasing difficult to bamboozle them. Indeed, they very quickly spot that they are being bamboozled and are furious that the "bamboozlers" thought that they were so stupid that they COULD be bamboozled in the first place! Europeans are way ahead of Americans on this score, probably because of all the frightful things that happend here during the 20th century "civil war". Americans' problem is that they are frequently so ill-informed about life in other countries that they fall for anything that panders to their Disneyland vision of the world. A PIIG in a poke, so to speak!
