Bob, I just re-read it,and, yes, I did read it before commenting. I was worried that I might have simply been guilty of confabulation, yet again. It is certainly true that I occasionally comment after a brief perusal,or if one particular assertion or argument takes my fancy. Not here, however. I stick to my general thesis, that market capitalism,in all its manifestations,is simply a process by which a tiny, mostly hereditary, parasitic elite, steals as much of the common wealth from the rest of humanity (and from future generations by the process of ecologically destructive pillage) as they can get away with.To maximise that amount of stolen wealth, they control a vast media brainwashing apparatus that indoctrinates the rabble into loving and admiring their oppressors and hating just about everybody else, they control, through the money power of political 'donations' (ie bribery) the wholly corrupt political process, and they ensure that their political stooges keep a highly efficient apparatus of police state repression, surveillance and provocation in fine working order, lest the serfs ever seek to change the debased reality of their situation. Looting of the US Social Security system was,in my view, not only inevitable, but will continue until every dime has been siphoned off to the usual suspects.

To add to this excellent article. The 1983 commission was put in place in order to shift the tax burden onto the working class to make up for the budget shortfall due to the 1981 Kemp-Roth tax cut for the rich.

Having proven his credibility as a class warrior Greenspan was later rewarded to head the FED.

Dear Bob Stumblebrain,
Mumblebrain did address what the Perfesser wrote; it just so happens that it is a generalist view, but nothing requires that nth-degree nit-focus be necessary to comment on the content of the article. It's what in Kolidge we called 'critical reading skills.' So what? if it sounds like some "diatribe" people don't like to hear repeated.

The Perfesser has a point: The social security fund has been used as a slush fund, and furthermore, it's how uncle Greenspan set it up to be in '83. It's a plutocrats' wet dream, and those plutocrats run around on the Pentagon's gold courses. Why, even uncle George like the idea so much he "thought" the social security fund privatized and invested. To whose gain was never really discussed, since the answer was obvious to those with a brain, but was 'campaigned on' in the same kind of diatribing just previously snarked at. The plan was, and is, to carry out a "gigantic, well-orchestrated and meticulously planned theft," to quote an eminent authority on the matter. What's not addressed?

Dear Mulga Mumblebrain, that name just cuts me up. But I digress. Did you read the article before commenting? Or did you just cut and paste a pre-written diatribe? See your post really didn't correlate to or comment upon(at least coherently) to anything the Professor wrote. Just curious.

No big surprise here. Market fundamentalist capitalism is all about theft,of the robbing of the many to enrich the few who own and control politics, the media and business (finance in particular). This larceny is as nought in comparison to the gigantic, well-orchestrated and meticulously planned theft involved in the GFC, the bailing-out of the banksters and the unfolding social retrenchment that will take Western societies back to a medieval, neo-feudal, dispensation, with masses of serfs and debt-peons reduced to misery, while the feudal lords live in luxury behind high walls, protected by armed and dangerous private armies.
