This is a very good assessment of the situation on the ground in Haiti and the lack of response. Obviously, there is a tragic disconnect between the aid that has been promised and the aid that is being delivered. But it seems that no one really cares.

Additionally, I take issue with one major point: no one but the thugs and gangs are calling for the return of Aristide. By the way, Aristide received the report http://www.bme.gouv.ht/alea%20sismique/Alea_sismique%20HAITI.pdf from the Bureau of Mines in October 2002 stating that there was a 100% chance that Haiti would experience an earthquake in the near future. Aristide never acted on that report which is a big part of why Haiti was so painfully unprepared for this disaster. If he REALLY would like to help the people of Haiti, he could return the $350 million that he stole from the country's coffers. You can read the Haitian General Accounting Office's report http://www.radiokiskeya.com/RapportUCREF.pdf detailing the money he stole from his people. That $350 million would go a long way toward recovery.
