This article is actually absurdly nice to the US government. It seems to assume that bush, obama, clinton, et. all are good people, playing into the hands of the ‘evil’ al queda. You don’t mention that the clintons, bushes’, obama, rice, albright, etc. are criminal terrorist murderers themselves; and they should be prosecuted, not just stop their policies, but have to pay for them. The issue is not that millions of people “were killed,” but that someone, the US military/white house, illegally murdered them. The washington insiders are terrorists; and while the rest of the world is none of washington’s business (whether it includes “terrorism” or other tactics) they are the terrorists and we have to stop them.

“But does the U.S. government really want to defeat terrorism? This is a serious question.” Of course it’s a serious question, so let me give you a serious answer – no. It’s like asking: Does the U.S. really want to win the ‘war on drugs’? The answer again is – no.

There’s far too much money involved and far too many persons (the empire’s troops and mercenaries) making their living from the killing machine. And then there’s the multi-level, multi-national global arms dealers, big oil and the lucrative opium poppy market. This ties directly into the fake ‘war on drugs’ too. Prison construction, cheap inmate labor, prison guards and local police forces benefit from creating fake enemies like marijuana. Speaking of fake enemies, why even mention al-Qaeda?

“Bush’s decision to launch a war was precisely what al-Qaeda wanted to further discredit the U.S. in Arab eyes.” The neocon decision to launch a war was deliberately calculated to secure the entire Middle East and Central Asia for oil, natural gas, oil and gas pipelines, and last – but certainly not least – Israel. As an added ‘benefit’ we have the USAPATRIOT Act and DHS to keep us secure here at home.

I hate to bring this up because it’s so obvious, but al-Qaeda was not responsible for 9/11.

Mr. Smith’s logical and rational points made under “Washington must reverse policy” are delusional. The insane executive branch and the corrupt congress will, at best, provide some window dressing and false fronts to further propagandize the populace. It’s true – “the U.S. public is blissfully ignorant.”

But “most of us Americans suffer not at all due to our country’s violent and criminal adventures abroad” is not true. Besides the “criminal adventures” of bailing out the banksters and Wall St., the investment of trillions of dollars, military hardware and personnel in the empire’s “criminal adventures abroad” will finally bring the chickens home to roost.
