Well said as ever. All part of that scam called the military industrial complex! In the UK we don't make anything much these days other than weapons (mostly for export) and most of those who still have employment work in those 'industries' or in ones connected to them. The rest seemingly are in financial services working up their bonuses and in the service industries.

I hope Mr Quigley won't mind me putting this link up. Chris Floyd writes savagely here.

'But hey, that's just how we roll nowadays. That's the American way of war. Creep, sneak, kill, run, lie – repeat. Sure, it only makes things worse, creates more enemies, keeps the wars going. But isn't that the point? Check it out, baby: they're piling an extra $33.5 billion of prime war pork on top of the mountain of Terror War funding already laid out for this year! And you need a whole lot of blood to wash down that meat – and a whole lot of new enemies to make sure the feast never ends.'

Bill,

You missed out some very impoprtant players in your section on "Who benefits from permanent war?"

Big business is obviously a powerful beneficiary, but equally as powerful, if not more so, are the civil servants whose careers entirely depend on the business of making war.

Consider the tens of thousands of career officers in the military (who are only civil servants wearing silly uniforms), all of those who manage the entire 'intelligence' community, senior police officers... the very last thing all these people want is a peaceful world: peace interferes with their careers big time. How could any of them possibly justify their annual budget requests in a peaceful world?

And who are the main advisers of our political leaders on the 'security' and 'defense' decisions they make? Who serves the media as the voice of 'expert opinion' on these same subjects? These very same civil servants, that's who. You should never forget all these guys when discussing the main beneficiaries of Permanent War.
