Weather is a function of climate and in Connecticut the climate is starting to resemble that found in the Pacific Northwest. The weather has been cooler than normal with abundant rainfall and exactly what one early IPCC report predicted for the Northeast United States. It rained every day during the month of June and into the beginning of July. Plant growth has been phenomenal on woody plants especially evergreens but has been somewhat detrimental to annual vegetable crops especially tomatoes and some fruit tree species due to the rapid proliferation of late blight and other plant diseases brought about by very high humidity levels and wet soil conditions. Tropical downpours have become more frequent and thunderstorms more violent. Surface water tables are high and if the weather pattern holds this way into the late summer early fall then significant damage from blown down trees could occur if Connecticut found itself in the path of a major hurricane.

I am trying my best not to participate in this capitalist inspired insanity of infinite growth on a finite planet but I feel somewhat alone in my local efforts.

Absolutely amazing isn't it? Weather in MN has been strange as well. Cooler and drier than I've ever remembered. Plants haven't been growing well in my gardens the past few years. Trees, one species after another, succumbing to insects and other disease . . .

We are in for a bumpy ride. Food is going to be damn expensive soon, and the Federal Looters exacerbate the problems.

Save your seeds, keep 'em dry and cool, teach others how to grow and preserve foods. Time to get re-acquainted with Emerson. Self-reliance and local community is where the real strength is. Stop looking to these overpaid politicians for salvation. Your expectations will only lead to disappointment. Put your own mask on before assisting others . . .

Peace, Resistance, Hope,
