Atzmon is clearly saying that Jews are exceptionally criminal, which is anti-Semitic. And by lumping together the criminal acts of a group of rabbis with the crimes of the state of Israel as some sort of “rise of Jewish crime” he’s stepping into the realm of absurdity.

Atzmon, from what I gather from his other writings, seems to view Zionism as something of a “natural” emanation from Judaism, rooted in Jewish religious and cultural tradition. This is then used to justify anti-Semitism as a justified response to Zionism.

The problem (among many) with this line of reasoning is that it fails to explain why it took thousands of years for political Zionism, a 19th century ideology, to emerge, or why it remained a relatively unpopular movement among masses of European Jews who sought for decades to better their lot not through colonizing Palestine but through social reform, revolution, and the labor movement.

A more plausible explanation is that Zionism was both a reaction of a section of the Jewish elite to anti-Semitism, as well as a racist colonial project self-interestedly seeking to ally itself with imperialist, capitalist powers to achieve its aims, which explains why it emerged and grew in strength alongside the rise and growth of imperialism and anti-Semitism.

Yes, often Atzmon points to very real crimes committed by Isreal (which is not hard to do…drop a pin on a map of historic Palestine and you’re likely to hit within a few miles of the site of a massacre or mass expulsion of Arabs carried out by Zionists in the past 60 odd years), and yes, these crimes are generally ignored by the mainstream media, and yes, the Zionists who provide cover for these crimes by smearing all critics of Zionism as anti-Semites must be condemned.

However, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Believe me, as someone with a spot on these bigots’ “Self-Hating Israel Threatening Jews” list, I really hate to admit it.

But Atzmon’s argument is anti-Semitic. And, besides being a form of oppression that must be condemned, anti-Semitism is the other side of the coin of Zionism. Zionism needs anti-Semitism. How else can they justify the existence of a state with special rights for Jews without the argument that its necessary to protect Jews from persecution? Without anti-Semitism, Zionism stands fully exposed as the racist ideology that it is, and Israel its brutal, apartheid manifestation.

After the slaughter in Gaza, Israel stands before the world naked, facing a crisis of legitimacy and a growing movement for justice for Palestinians. Let’s work with this momentum, instead of helping the Zionists put clothes back on the beast.

I am shocked that we receive so many zionists visitors. If one surf the net will see that Mr. Atzmon did not say anything more than it has been already published. Even Fox News published the same piece. Do you think Hollywood is interested to make a film on this subject, where is not limited to this one case?
