I think you need to understand what the Tamil people had to go through under Sunhalese rule before commenting on LTTE and democracy in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka was never a democracy, never will be, it will always remain as majority rule (Sinhalese rule to be exact) The only way Sri Lanka can become democracy is at the expense of the Tamil people (when they are completely wiped of the island). What did the Tamils do to be the sacrificial goat? The Tamils went through so much suffering before the LTTE was even created, when the LTTE became a strong force the Tamils were given hope. Now that hope has been destroyed and they are back to the same place they were before. It is amazing how the quest for freedom of the Tamil people has created a movement which had to be crushed by India with the support of all the major players in the world ( does not include Sri Lanka in any way, Sri Lanka was the marketing face for the war with the Tamils).

Demilitarisation? For a nation of 21 million even after an expansion of the armed forces it still would be pretty extreme to call it 'militarisation of a nation'.

I suggest you read the post below from a Sri Lankan blogger. Also read through his blog. There are several reasons why the displaced needed to be contained, and several more good reasons why their resettlement should not be rushed.

BTW Sri Lanka has been a successful democracy. The island was the first in the world to have a female PM. The only place democracy did not exist was under the noses of the Tamil Tigers. With their defeat even the biggest critic of the Rajpaksa administration will agree that democracy is finally here.
