The real problem with the EC, and hence the euro, is that it is another outpost of Western exceptionalism, and is very nearly as thoroughly controlled, politically and economically, by Judaic money power, as the US. I'm afraid I see the West as a whole, the US and EC, mediated through the terrorist death-squad of NATO, as the enforcers for an empire based as much in Tel Aviv as Washington and Brussels. The central venue for Western aggression at the moment (although not the only one, by any means) is Eurasia, the Middle East in particular. The US needs to control the hydro-carbons and maintain their trade in dollars, and Israel needs total regional dominance so it can finish the cleansing of the unwanted indigenous from its God-ordained lebensraum in the East.
The US is, like market capitalism also, akin to a cancer. It must keep growing, it must keep robbing the rest of its host, the planet, of nutriment, to feed its own insatiable metabolism of greedy consumption. The result of US malignancy is global cachexia, seen in the billions living in squalour across the planet, and in the condition of the planet itself, being denuded, impoverished and pillaged without restraint, all in the name of the holy 'American Way of Life'.
The US will not go into the good night of its eclipse as global hegemon and bully-boy par excellence peacefully. As Obama has shown, to no sapient creature's surprise, so completely and so rapidly, there can be no other type of US President than the global cappo. If Obama ever entertained, for an instant, the possibility of the US relaxing its grip on the planet's throat, and the ranting hypocrisy of its moral supremacism, then he would surely make the trip to Dallas. If the US establishment didn't do the job, Mossad could be relied on, although I'm sure they would furnish a Moslem patsie, an Arab Oswald, to place the blame where it would be most useful. The US/Israel Real Axis of Evil will never allow any group or groups of countries to arise that would thwart the Bosses' prerogatives, so I see this all ending in tears, amongst climate change, economic disorder and resource depletion. If we make it through that imbroglio I'll be very, very happy, and no less surprised.

You are in love with the euro, Michael. The international currency that BRIC wants is not intended to fuse all national economies into a One World government, at least I doubt it. The trouble with the EU is it has no political will (and never will), so the currency is an orphan. What "success" are you talking about? The EU is a mess.
What I find more interesting is the revival of barter, dual currencies, govt controls on money creation (China), fixed/ pegged exchange rates. The elegant unitary floating system now is just a crap game for nasty money changers and the like. Its days are numbered.

Not so much re-inventing the wheel as re-inventing the EU and the Euro, a currency "disconnected from individual nations". The success of the latter, in particular, is inspiring copies! And I would guess that EU leaders are delighted with what happened in Yekatarinburg. What I find odd, though, is that Mr Walberg is all agog over this, but has devoted a huge amount of energy up to now spewing hate and venom at the EU and the Euro! The same is true of Michael Hudson, whom he mentions in the article. What's the difference? Isn't the rest of the world merely starting to copy the EU's success? And if it's OK for BRIC and the SCO, why is it wrong for the EU?
