I have a theory that what's happening is that the countries with large dollar holdings and wealthy individuals with large dollar-denominated holdings are propping up the dollar artifically (and creating a stock market bubble!) while they re-cycle their investments into something else (euros, for example). Once they've done that, and that could be a year or two down the road, they'll let the dollar drop, but that is actually in the interest of the "little guy" in the US, since it will reduce the US foreign debt in real terms and, of course, reduce the economic attraction of outsourcing.

Sir:

You are quite right. The economic news has been distressing for all of us.

I had planned on buying Junior a car for his graduation present when he finishes at Le Rosey in June. But all the fuss about recessions and depressions have caused me to rethink things a bit.

Do you think that he will forgive dear mom and me if we get him the SLK 55 AMG instead of the G model?

Why can't the poor just understand our needs? We have problems too, you know.
