He doesn't have to deal with the normal customs & immigration issues that most people go through, and being the leader of a country he's granted diplomatic immunity when attending overseas conferences. So as long as he doesn't give any coca to people without immunity he's not really breaking a law. Yes a normal person would be detained, if not arrested, for the same action. I wish him the best in fighting this uphill battle. The USA has played the bully for far too long in this arena, and it's time we begin to listen to our dissenters and not just ignore them. I guess the 'negative' thing about coca that most governments trade upon is the fact that it can be used to make cocaine, which is portrayed as an evil thing. However, there's a strong suspicion those same governments themselves use addictive drugs as a kind of alternative currency for bankrolling those aspects of their imperial controls they would rather the people did not find out about. (Consider the British trade in poppy during the nineteenth century, enthusiastically copied by the current empire today). I wish Mr Morales every success. Really interesting article Nadia, thanks.
