Off this particular topic but on the subject of torture, Craig Murray has succeeded in getting the Joint Committee on Human Rights to hear his evidence. This comes after a long battle and with the support of over 500 e-mails to the committee from his supporters, myself included. Mr Murray is a brave and courageous person.

(Justice Secretary Jack Straw to be Accused on Torture in Parliamentary Inquiry)

His formal statement can be found on the same site.

After 11th September 2001, when "everything changed", Cheney mentioned using tactics from “the dark side” to interrogate terrorism suspects (ie just about anyone in the population that we don't like at the time).

This statement was not accidental and is important, because secretive torture is ineffective. You have to let the population know what they could be in for if they fall into one of the "banned' organisations (the blacklist is open to seasonal fluctuations). Like the many pictures of sub-humans in orange jumpsuits being wheeled around Guantanamo. I imagine it would be an easy thing for the government to ban the cameras from the island. However, it served a purpose to advertise the control mechanism.
