Before the melt down I gave my dentist's receptionist a couple of hundred dollars to help out in Cambodia. A few months later I read of one of her fellow altruists death, by murder at a bank machine. Well keep at it but watch your back. PollyAnna can't count on making it out alive from some human hell.

Haiti is a good example of what an invasive human species can accomplish in a few hundred years. Up here in Canada we can't find a warm enough place to procreate, so it wouldn't bother me if some could come up here, as long as they followed my kindly direction.Just kidding, I know that's somebody else's prerogative.Situation Diablo.

"From Columbus to Castro: The History of the Caribbean" by Eric Williams, if you don't get mired down in the economics, has an understandable simplification of the San Domingo-Haitian situation. And the Vintage paperback has a great map in front. You can underline the islands in different colors, for French, British, and Spanish!!
