The media loves a good "up from the old bootstraps" story, but in reality, Obama grew up in a working or middle class lifestyle and was no worse off than most. Those sprung from poverty and humility can be as corrupt, uncaring, and ruthless as those born of means. Does fear prevent Obama from doing right by the "poor" saps he left behind (and also who voted for him)? No. The man had no intention of being a beacon for Main Street - he set his sights on Wall Street long ago and never looked back. His desire to be accepted was satisfied eons ago as the power players vetted and pronounced Obama one of them. The jury is still out on just how “poor” was Obama’s upbringing. But we have to keep our eye on the ball; first things first: the most important consideration is to force the banks to write down the debt. Otherwise, nationalization is no panacea. If nationalization includes a debt writedown, all well and good. But I fear that the intention is to protect the toxic assets with a "bad bank" approach and then disguise the give- away with a nationalization of what is left. I've often wondered what it is about growing up poor and humble that drives people like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama into the arms of the very people that are most likely to put a boot on their necks if they don't fall in line. Fear? A desire to be accepted by those they see as their overlords? Who knows. But it seems that Obama will just be a black Clinton. Afraid and insecure deep down inside, unable to call upon intelligence and common sense when being nibbled at by the rats in their cabinets. Pity. Nice piece, Mr. Lendman.
