There is a complex interaction between the gravity of the moon and temperatures (determined by the day of the year). Weather patterns repeat every 19 years as the lunar year realigns itself with the solar year. There also are other patterns such as 48 year cycles. Thus the locust plague or the big drought that occurred 48 years ago may repeat itself again this year.

Although weather conditions cannot be controlled, they can be monitored to provide advance warning of impending disasters. Today disasters are modified by modern technology, corrupt government and sometimes an invading army to make them more frequent and worse. An example is dikes deliberately designed to fail in severe storms.

The importance of controlling infiltration can be seen in the development of national borders with unique national languages. Damage can be caused by slow immigration or by a rapid armed invasion. The point is that good times lead to gross overpopulation, gross overpopulation leads to the food running out, and the food running out leads to swarms of people or insects looking for more food far from home.

Governments and businesses are only as good or as bad as the people that make them up. Those that fail to control destructive behavior will be destroyed by destructive behavior.

Well, the big corporations have to be fighting SOMEbody. And if we Americans succeed even minimally in getting them off the backs of peoples overseas, they're going to be channeling their riches into keeping American labor in the 1930's.

See the parallel with the situation of our bringing back our specially-trained warriors, whose egos are defined by killing, and them all melding into American law-enforcement.

Did anybody say that getting America to mind its own business - to coin a phrase - was going to be easy?

The right has been very successful in brainwashing the U.S. public on the subject of unions. I doubt that the average worker in this country realizes that it was only through mass worker movements that the 40-hour, 5-day work work week came into being. It is so sad to hear so many workers, many barely making minimum wage, having nothing but conditioned negative responses to the union movement. I do hope that the utter failure of capitalism will awaken workers and cause them unite once again. If not, the wealthy will win. They will implement their ultimate wet dream, that of a formal neofeudal system, with them absolutely in charge, and the rest of us existing only to serve them. Beware those who cry out for local control, which is nothing more than control by the local gentry, with the power to impose a different set of laws for each fiefdom they rule.

brian,
aside from socialist lands (their socialisms at incipient stages, tho) i know of no country whose society is not split, broadly, into 3 main and dozen or so of subclasses.

in US, because of a special mode of propaganda, more people percentage wise are deluded than in any other empire or country.

as i see it, there are 3 modes of propaganda; nazi, communist, and plutocratic.
nazis demanded/expected utter obedience and utter voiced approval; silence was not welcomed; dissent was severely punished.

communists also wanted utter obedience; however, voiced approval was not demanded; silence meant approval; dissent was punished tho differently than that of the nazis.

in US, silence is OK; dissent is tolerated; only some approval is necessary.
approval was demanded only from clergy, media/infantainment people, 'educators' and, of course, from pluocrats, fbi, cia, army echelons, police, other spying agencies.

natch, US/plutocratic model had been to date most successful.
there is, i conclude, nothing wrong with USans. nearly all people evaluate half truths, huge lies as the truth. thnx

Howard Zinn does a good job of covering the labor movement in his book, "A People's History of the United States". We've come a long way since the Haymarket massacre to balance the rights of the laborer against the rights of the corporation, but unfortunately corporate power has increased much faster than that of the unions.

Corporations have every right to send jobs overseas, but who will buy the imports? How can corporate America expect laborers to subsist at the poverty level, when a wealthy wage earner in the U.S. can receive $65K per hour?

Most Americans are pawns of the elite - simply moved around the chessboard as needed. One day the sheeple say "Unions are bad!". The next day - "Taxes are bad!". One might as well hit themselves in the head with a hammer, repeatedly, as listen to a typical American.

Obama is the latest PR representative who has cast the sorceror's spell over the feeble Americans. These zombies say "Chaaannnnggggeeeee".

What really surprises me with Obama is the incredibly high percentage of Americans who are zombies. Even Reagan's America wasn't like this.

America needs a massive cultural shift.

Oprah and Obama - two necromancers cut from the same mold. Their undead armies are among us. Out of sheer politeness we call them human.

Compared to mythological zombies, the real ones are pretty lame. At least the fictional ones desire brains - real ones just want a comfortable chair and endless distractions.

It's good to see articles like this.
It bothers me that so many people blame the unions for American car manufacturers' economic problems. Unions are not perfect but they are important and have done a lot of good for the American worker.
