The special God given Boon to humanity (or-Nature's Gift if you do not like the expression of God) is a highly evolved Mind-Intellect-Intelligence and an exclusive Will of exercising choice over actions whether involving subtle Mental abstractions or Physical actions. Thus the first choice is exercised in believing that God is an almighty Creator or rejecting that concept and settling to the Idea that Nature has created everything. As long as we human beings accept the fact that we are products of Creation what difference it makes by our mind supported choice? The Church supported the Concept that the earth is flat and the Idea that the Universe rotates around the earth but human enlightenment of mind has 'proved' to the contrary. Similarly many such entertained Myths assumed to be realities have been replaced with scientifically Proven realities. However all such arguments and choices have not radically alleviated human suffering although they have provided material benefits. Therefore the activities of human mind cannot really address the purpose of creation as human beings unless the the mind management itself is trained and installed with programs free from egoistically colored convictions claiming copy and patent rights over knowledge and possessive actions and achieve transparency in justice, compassion and love with the realization that the earth belongs to all life of creation and we should accustom to live in an harmonious cooperation with it

Barbara, I cannot believe that someone in the 21st century can make such narrow-minded and inaccurate comments! Have you not read your own history of ethnically cleanising the original inhabitants of this continent, the Red Indians. Why are you denying others the same opportunities that you have enjoyed for so long. Why such exclusiveness?

Thansk Barry for your reply to Barbara.

No Barbara, our cities - and the nation - were largely built by immigrant labor and slave labor. Immigrants are less likely to be on welfare than American citizens. They are less likely to use food stamps, and because they are less likely to have health insurance (a phenomenon also growing among citizens) they are also less likely to seek health care. Immigrants do buy big-screen TVs - as does everyone else - and they buy houses and seek education like citizens do to. Immigrants DO know how to start from scratch, that's why they came. Immigrants work for landscapers, roofers, and restauranteurs. When they've save enough money they open landscaping and roofing businesses and restaurants. Pretty much same as it ever was.

You should remember that long ago this continent was inhabited entirely by Native-Americans. Then it became increasingly inhabited by West Europeans and enslaved West Africans. To this mix it has added over time, eastern and southern Europeans, Asians and Hispanics (who are to no small degree Native-American). The more things change the more things remain the same. [Short story: After working on a job for maybe two years there was a huge department turnover. I told a long-term fellow employee that there's a lot of new faces in the department. She replied - yeah, your one of them. So from my perspective the department had a set staff and all the new people were those who came after me. From the older woman's perspective, I was just part of the passing parade.]

On a material basis - the immigrants fulfill the need of businesses for cheap labor - labor that serves the rest of us - including you. If you want to curtail immigration, promote raising the minimum wage substantially and living wages for all. Then Americans will take these jobs. With that, your only contact with 'furiners' will be at 'ethnic' restaurants.

It makes me sick to see all these different ethnic and religious groups fighting over America. I wish they would go back to where they came from and would leave us alone.

The fight for "their" rights and interests is always a fight against the founding stock of this nation. We are expected to give and give and give. We are expected to assimilate to their cultures, languages and needs. We don't have a right to do as we please in our own country any longer. If they don't like what is happening here they can leave the country the same way they came.

New Orleans is ours to do with as we please. If we push it into the sea its none of their business and I would like to push them into the sea.

These people are inferiors who could never create a city like New Orleans. They come here and find our cities and then set about making them over into their images and expecting us to do everything for them. Real Americans never expect others to do everything for them. Thats how our cities got built in the first place.

These people came to America for the welfare checks, food stamps, health care, education, housing and big screen tvs that were handed over to them as soon as they stepped across our borders. They have no idea how to start from scratch with courage, commitment and independence and build something. Whine whine whine thats all they do. If we don't do everything for them then they protest and whine and expect everything to be served up on a platter. Perhaps the rest of us are sick of them and protest their presence in our country.

Thank you for an excellent article, and my hope if for the groups you detailed to become a voice for those who have had no voice for many generations. I would suggest that the group add another voice - Lebanese Christians. There are many of us throughout the world who feel isolated from the core "arab-amereican" establishment. Many of them do not feel welcome among the Muslims and they certainly aren't welcome among Jews. In fact many Christians do not consider themselves Arabs because they are not Muslim. Bring them into your fold - we are all Arabs and we can help.
