Binyam Mohamed, a British resident was scooped from Afghanistan in 2002. He was ‘renditioned’ and tortured in three countries (including having his genitals cut with razor blades) before being sent to Guantanamo where he still resides. No charges are pending.

When his British lawyer tried to get access to an unclassified CIA file describing Mr. Mohamad’s torture, the US threatened to stop sharing security intelligence with Britain if the High Court released the information, which the judges explained was embarrassing to the British and US governments, but not classified, but critical to the case.

This was done under the Bush Administration, but the threat was repeated by the Obama Administration on January 22 2009.

It worked. The information was withheld.
