Frankly, the United States is playing a very deadly and duplicitous game. On the one hand, they let the jihadist genie out of the bottle in Afghanistan, and now attack their former allies. On the other hand, as Robert Dreyfuss and Richard Labeviere documented in respectively, “Devil’s Game” and “Dollars for Terror,” the US/UK continue to utilize these same networks as witting and unwitting intelligence assets in global destabilization operations, e.g. former Yugoslavia, Chechnya, Azerbaijan.

They attack the Pakistanis and make “nice” with the Indians, all the while using both nations who have their own respective geopolitical goals to gore one another! (BTW, the Indian state aren’t innocent victims in any of this. If the BJP/RSS return to power, things will be immeasurably worse than they are now). “Divide and rule,” an axiom learned from their British teachers seems to be the operative mentality with the U.S. national security apparat. With the present economic meltdown, imperialism has overextended itself and I believe, is at a loss at how to deal with the problems they have created. Because of an extreme crisis of confidence, they appear to be staggering like drunks from crisis to crisis, embracing contradictory and self-defeating strategies that will, almost inevitably, lead to newer and more dangerous situations.

It is evident that the Zadari government is ill-prepared to deal with the TTP who are marching steadily eastward towards major population centers. The solution? Release AQ Khan and try to assuage the TTP and ISI! Or worse, launch a violent military campaign (Swat, FATA, Balochistan) that targets civilians while emboldening the TTP/al-Qaeda. Meanwhile, the Kashmiri people continue to suffer twin assaults–by Indian repressors and ISI-linked jihadis like LET. The solution? Attack Mumbai, thus escalating tensions and strengthening the hand of Shiv Sena fascists! Its madness, true enough, but the United States and their NATO partners (i.e., the corporate masters they serve) are looking for a “quick fix” that result in short-term gains. Its the nature of the beast, after all.

I don’t believe the U.S. is naive; short-sighted and caught in a bind of their own making, one, as you say, with lasting and extremely dangerous consequences.

Extremely good article. I have been seeing all these dots for quite sometimes which the author has connected very much in professional way. But I am at loss to understand the bigger game. Yes ISI acts as CIA’s asset so has to do its bidding. Soviet invasion— mujahideen creation a joint venture of Saudi,ISI,CIA– kicking out of soviets—chaos and destruction in Afghanistan—-raising of Taliban enterprise with al Qaeda underneath—9/11 –US comes to Afghanistan under whose umbrella India increase its presence: a red tag to Pakistani security establishments’ bull— so India need to be kicked out but first the umbrella of US & NATO to be taken out— for that needs Talibans and Taliban do not grow on trees: they have to be sown and harvested– field has to be ploughed i.e schools blown, normal life disrupted, populations displaced whereas the ideological work done by mullahs in mosques around the clock ,state media, schools curriculum, tablighis, religious parties, numerous religious event year around: so that its youth spoiled and hence caste into shape of Taliban: pawns. Now CIA knows it UK knows it but instead of curbing it they are fostering the very hand which is sowing these poisonous mushrooms. I am really lost what US wants what it wants to achieve? Dose it want to arouse esprit de corps among Pakistani security establishment through waving Indian red tag and giving impression of Islam and Muslims under siege, so that Pakistani security establishment which is already nuclear armed will gain further strength and will be a counter weight for India which west in the heart of their heart fears, whereas on the surface giving the impression as if they are the best friend of them and that is done in order to nurture India for a role of countering China and so on and so forth……. I am really at loss to understand as to whether US-West are so naïve to understand the gravity of the situation or has become so weak that they can not deal with such unconventional but extremely deadly threat effectively and comprehensively. After excluding possibility of both these scenarios the only reason remaining is that they are actively involved in this whole drama. But my personal feeling is that this time around they will get not just their fingers burnt but whole human civilization as well. The End of Civilization has been set in albeit through plying smart not realizing what genie they have released from the bottle. ?

I’m not sure it’s just that, it’s also about demonisation of religion, destruction of culture, progress and a way of life and a love for ugliness and depravity and hatred.
Wahhabism was invented 250 years ago and its publicly declared enemy are all Muslims who reject it, hence you get the suicide bombers in Iraq (mostly found to be from saudi arabia), and, these vicious attacks on girls and schools in Pakistan. They are followers of their own invented craziness and hide behind the Salafi label, it’s a sick joke.

I don’t presume to be an Islamic scholar, but during another period of activism I frequently came up-against their “cousins,” the theocratic Christian Right. If an analogy would be appropriate, the “American Taliban” have as much in common with the teachings of Jesus as the lunatics who behead and murder people do with the teachings of the Prophet. Needless to say, their Zionist counterparts, i.e., the fanatical “settlers” are in the same camp.

Its all about the loot and very little else…

Good article.
It’s actually wrong to use the label “Salafi” for these psychos because it implies they are followers of Islam when it is easily proven by scholars that they are not, in fact more than that, where these Wahhabi/Zionist (saudi trained) terrorists operate such as in Iraq I have known people kidnapped by them to describe them as sleezy scum with a mocking regard for religion — they are simply playing a part they enjoy and get well paid for by the ruling government. And the Saudis and Israelis have their united destructive hand everywhere. It’s all about the total destruction of Islam
