American unions are as neoliberal as American corporations. When did unions fight for public health care for all? Nah, just medical insurance for themselves. Maternity leave for all workers? Paternity leave? Public transportation?

Granted, these sold-out unions cannot be blamed for the demise of the auto industry, but they can be blamed for turning their backs on the poor and underclass during decades.

Perhaps The Collapse will create the social conditions necessary for workers to organize and work towards social justice, not just some extra cents per hour for themselves.
