George Monbiot wasn't impressed with this Medialens alert.
http://tinyurl.com/9vh62f

And I doubt he's impressed with the gushing hero worship that seems to afflict Medialens fans. People should try to think for themselves a bit more. I wonder how many ML fans noticed the contradiction at the heart of the alert?

“Why would we adamantly demand something of journalists that we ourselves declare impossible”.

Then only a few paragraphs later:

“We are aware that we are in a sense demanding the impossible, but reality has an odd way of bending before the insistence that something +should+ be possible.”

Just fancy that!

These are trying times to say the least. Let's keep it together people and this is an e-mail I sent to a financial channel this morning after I saw the jobs numbers.

 Morning,

The main thing in a situation like this is to try and stay calm. The system the present system capitalism is or has been used up. Production consumption ever increasing is the main problem. Will not work anymore. It could be tried and in just a few years no system. Here's where that new way of thinking comes in. I saw a picture of an airport over Thanksgiving somewhere here in the States and slow and quiet it was kind of like Iceland on a cold morning. That's the good part takes the pressure off. Here's where the reason comes in. So nobody wants to take risks no no no this where we do that in a big way. You know all those dealerships that are now closed well they have big doors and are ready to go for the big change over. Use them to start converting big machinery over to natural gas and at the same time probably a good idea to get a very large research project started in one building for new energy sources Tennessee is a good State. GM and Ford could start in a big way mass transit and that change over for big machines to gas. Cars small and that is if you must drive. Of course a very large project solar thermal and those new power lines yes a few nuclear plants the new kind. The government is the main player in this of course and the minds to keep it organized our out there. The government doesn't know how to do this well we change that and if any funny stuff there is always' the town square just kidding as to do this right the object is not profit but to save our ass. That's where the new old system comes in. Many don't like that name Socialism so let's think of a new name and there is no reason it can't work if done right. I know all the little Gods we see in the World today take a big pay cut and some join the party or they don't get to play. Part of that new way of thinking is that having a lot of money doesn't make you smart but imagination and how your ideas help the human race. You know a person sitting in a coffee shop and someone comes up and say's "hello sir are you the person who helped build the new low-loss power lines because I just want to thank you". Something like that. Of course a few won't like this idea so like I said we will give them the State of Colorado and I am sure they will get bored and plan how to take over the new World the rest of us build. Probably better to help with the new World part. Now of course many will say this is crazy talk and if not done in just a few years those very people will be thinking to themselves damn we could have had a V-8 without the salt.
