u concluded that i do not believe in higher power. and i don’t think u feel sorry for me. i think u’r just mean. and that may be ur high power. u can have it.
but i don’t believe- i know that our being interdependent/trusting/cooperative is our greatest wealth. and believing is not knowing. so what u believe in, is just what u were taught as child to believe.
please don’t attack other people. accepting and even asking for free speech is also one of our great assets.
sorry that u have been so badly educated as ur condemnation of free speach clearly shows. thnx

Interesting post–But it’s all becoming so very surreal for me now..watching this political farce go down the way it has…the lies, the fabrications, the justification of the money shifting to who knows where. Any reasonable watcher of these cspan events can see through all the shenanigans, but into what weird realm? A realm peopled by banksters, and fraudsters, and gangsters, and “con”-ser-vaporatives, and demo-gorge ‘n’ gougers, all planning, and pressing, and voting, and buying and selling, and skimming, and “protecting” the public interest. I feel so safe in their embrace…so safe in my free world, my great country, my star-spangled democracy whilst “under the spreading chestnut tree, I sold you and you sold me…”

Though Joe Bageant is as always bitingly funny with a message that is like dripping acid, I feel that I have to put in a word here for the American public. No population in the whole world has been so manipulated as the people here and though humans are the same wherever they are, Americans are more victimized than the humblest war victim in Iraq. This may sound very heretical but let me tell you from personal experience as a war child in Europe, mental confusion, alienation and slavery is far worse than physical harm. The emptiness that materialism has created in wrecking the soul is horrendous as Joe knows all too well and it is a desert of nothingness that creates despair. In fact when I observe the careful upkeep and not touching of small parks with flowers in London and Paris, I am sorely reminded of the careless fouling of the environment in New York. Only very disturbed animals foul their own nests and that is truly tragic to my mind because it denotes hopelessness and defeat. There again, maybe sounding as a Cassandra, I expect that a renewed and severe failure of the economic system may make people understand the humanity of us all by common suffering. Unavoidable but hopefully healing, it will be a reversal from artificial fun and unrealistic hubris. Dire reality is quite wonderful, believe me. And humans are remarkable, I have great hopes….

Obama’s victory as a rejection of the war on terror? He constantly talks about the war on terror and hunting down and killing Bin Laden.

Tragically the USA is betrayed by its own percieved ” success” . Its imatators , Australia,Japan, Canada Euros et al ;Arrogance and pride before a fall .Cosmic farce …….. Joe thanks for saying it …… despair shared ……… pathetic consolation . we are down to this.

Thoughtful article.

Something I’ve been struggling with is how do we show compassion towards those who display none themselves? I suppose it is the hardest task of all, and also, I think, one of the most essential.

The .world might be screwed, but it would be even worse without Joe Bageant. Far worse.

I’m glad Mr. Obama was elected President. But he sounded like he was running for the presidency of the fifth grade. Good luck.
