just to remind dv posters and contributors that most other euro lands are no better than US/UK ad hoc alliance.
most eurolands have soldiers in afghanistan; most support US aggression against and the occupation and permamenence of US/euro presence in iraq.
folks, as far i can make out, it’s not onehandclap or even two, three, but a bn of hands clapping for even larger bestiality against so many nations.
christans behave as the bible teaches: those that don’t have (’stans, syria, iran, et al) will even lose what little they have.
also sprach jesus!
how about, zarathustra, aristotel, marx, lenin, truman, bush, obama? what said they?
i really don’t care what they may have said about this panhuman trait.
i still assert that the weakest among us wld suffer the most.

Very well said and especially your caustic comment “More of the same, but at least he’s not George.” One should also inquire if the mainstream media will point out Obama’s misgivings or will they simply give him a free ride. If Obama goes ahead with his plans of escalating the war in Afghanistan as well as emulating Bush’s directive of ordering American forces into Pakistan, those innocent civilians will still wind up very dead and grievously wounded, despite the [alleged] “humanitarian” actions of Barack Obama.

I think Obamamania will quickly become Baracknophobia.

Will he do anything about the crimes of the Bush Administration, or pretend nothing happened?

Will he stop torture and unlawful imprisonment?

Will he get out of Iraq and Afghanistan (both homicidal and suicidal adventures).

Will he admit the bailout is a failure and a money-grab by crooks?

Will he realize that the domestic portion of the world-wide American caused financial debacle cannot be rectified without a drastic reduction in ‘defense’ budgets and the closure of bloated military bases abroad?

Will he admit that the ‘war on terror’ is bogus, and stop making threats against Iran, Pakistan, and others?

Will he order an investigation into 9/11?

Will he tell Israel to go to hell?

Nope. More of the same, but at least he’s not George.

I think the reason why the European media have been bubbling over Obama has more to do with what they wish for than what they see. The illusion that we was the risen Kennedy died once they read the text of the Berlin speech, which was greeted in the European media with more or less horrified silence. So Obama’s stock went down a bit and he became Clinton II. Everybody in Europe loved Bill but he created the still on-going mess in ex-Yugoslavia. So doubts began to set in. The election night speech, essentially the same as the Berlin speech, further eroded the illusion. The final blow was Rahm Emanuel. Practically nobody has ever heard of him in Europe, but his name told them all they needed to know! And it was the very last thing they wanted to hear! Even a few days after the above quotes were written, I think few of the authors would be anything like as enthousiastic. Now, comments seem to start with words like “all the same”, “none the less” or some similar formula as journalists try to fish something positive out of the wreckage of Obamamania.

The honeymoon will be short and the divorce will probably be bitter!
