Obama is not Bush or Reagan, unlike them, he is engaged and in charge and holds to firm principles of leading the US in the right direction. There is no reason for progressives to panic. His selection of Gates does not mean Gates gets a blank check or runs the show, it is a transition appointment to help reshape the defense mission. The “change” is that Obama will lead a team of disparate and ambitious based on a reasoned approach rather than ideology, just as he promised, which will end ill considered adventures.

bears repeating: alight from heaven to hell and look it in the eye.
and the hell is awesome.
to see this hell, one can stop personalizing the state and its doings.
it’s not gate, obama, clinton, bush but hordes (50+ mn rabid usans) who sell wars, prevent health care, democratization, etc.
the differences among these 50-100 mns people r not found in basics/strategies but in tactics only. thnx

The re-appointment of the cunning, deceitful, warmongering, consumingly ambitious Gates to Secretary of Defense will signal, amongst other things, that Obama’s talk of change was just that. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.
