Great article...honesty without the hype

And thanks Walter. That fuzzy math is even worse when you consider what working gets you in the land of the free.

"I gues in a socialist society homicides and kidnappings go up"

This has occurred, but Chavez is in the process of restructuring the apparteus of law enforcement, which was, under the previous capitalist administration, very repressive. This will soon get better.

"In a socialist society inflation is rampant."

This comes with massive increases in wages, 30% this year alone. One might think that the admittedly high inflation rate would undo this, but since a lot of essential services and goods are subsidized the people have seen massive increases in their quality of life.

"In society, basic infrastructures crumble"

That's a new one for me, I'm not sure where you heard it. Bolivarian socialism has greatly increased the infrastructure of the poorest neighborhoods: housing, healthcare, and education are available to all via the Bolivarian Missions.

"In a socialist society, unemployment grows in the private sector and more people are employed by the state."

Unemployment is at historic lows around 7%, lower than in the United States when you factor in the fuzzy math the bureau of labor statistics uses.

These accounts are great, and I'm so happy for the amazing progress that Hugo Chavez has made for the poor people of his nation, who didn't even have free public schools before his administration.

It's great to receive first hand accounts of the struggles of this brave nation and its attempts to rid itself of the domination of those who have stolen and now "own" so much wealth, all of which was created by working people. They are up against the enormous military and economic forces of these "owners" and it is inspiring and remarkable that they have succeeded at all, much less have consolidated their gains. Working people all over the world are watching and learning from excellent reports like this while they are being forced to bail out this corrupt, rich, parasitic class.

What a pile of baloney. The fact remains that Venezuela is far worse off today than it was when Chavez took control in '98.

The fact is that Chavez has caused a great upheaval in all areas of Venezuelan lives in the name of socialism.

I gues in a socialist society homicides and kidnappings go up. In a socialist society inflation is rampant. In society, basic infrastructures crumble. In a socialist society, unemployment grows in the private sector and more people are employed by the state.

If that's a socialist society, Chavez (and you) can keep it. Unfortunately, here in the US, we might be seeing the dawn of something similar if Obama wins.
