Thanks for this article...I'll look for CPR FOR DUMMIES at one of the independent bookstores here in NYC. As for other interesting fiction, I can suggest David Ohle, (a friend of Burroughs, by the way, and editor of his son Billy Burroughs' material that had been intended for a third novel). Ohle has published three novels, the first over 30 years ago, the second and third only in the last five years. MOTORMAN, his first novel, is back in print, and is a poetic strange examination of a man named Moldenke who goes on a sort of quest. The second novel THE AGE OF SINATRA, is a sequel of sorts to MOTORMAN, primarily only in that it features Moldenke again as the protagonist; and THE PISSTOWN CHAOS, Ohle's third and most recently published novel, is set in the same "other Earth" of the first two works. Moldenke is not the protagonist here, but he does make brief appearances. I won't try to describe these strange, funny, outlandish, vividly imagined novels of surreal and mordant humor. You'll probably have to order them from Amazon, but I highly recommend all three books.

Also, ATOMIK AZTEX by Sesshu Foster is another novel of baroque imagination, switching back and forth between our present time and the past, in a world where the Azteks never really died out.
