If the left isn't able to break free of the cliché analysis of "the war is bad, but Iraq was such an evil dictatorship before we went there" or "if we leave now, sectarian civil war will engulf everything," then it will never be capable of putting forward a coherent response to the U.S. occupation. The war is not just a humanitarian disaster – it is a total violation of the sovereignty and independence of a whole people and needs to be understood in those terms. The only solution is the restoration of Iraq's self-determination through the victory of the national resistance.
