"So why would the US not have a plan for helping law enforcement in the event of a social meltdown?"

Danny Ray: Well, there's always posse comitatus, which prohibited such use of the military except in exceedingly dire circumstances. Here we have an active combat brigade being exclusively dedicated to NorthCom (for a year?) as a mere "contingency". I'd say such a draconian ploy should raise many a patriot's eyebrow! But naturally, your results may vary.

As I recall, DOD didn't merely develop plans to "prevent invasion" by Mexico or Canada; it has long had fully-developed war plans FOR the invasion of Canada and Mexico by the US. Those hypothetical campaigns, of course, were radically different from the active war planning for Afghanistan, which the Bush Regime had already made known it would implement long before the supposedly "causative" events of 9/11/01.

Just sayin'. I have to add, I largely agree with your closing advice above, though many in the US would be conditioned to reject it outright. Under the current and future instability foreseeable in this country, "happiness" may WELL be "a warm gun".

As far as plans go, I know that the DOD also has a plan to oppose the mexican invasion of the United States as well as a plan to stop the canadian invasion of the United States. We also had a war game on that one. (It was hard to act dumb enought to appear like the real canadian army).
I am also told though I have never seen it that there is a plan for invasion from outer space. ( I really hope it has a Slim Whitman tape in the envelope) So why would the US not have a plan for helping law enforcement in the event of a social meltdown? Think about it if someone on old Abe's staff had planned on what to do during the southern rebellion maybe the north would have won at bull run and most of the unpleasentness would have been avoided.

As for being armed I wish all Americans would purchase some type of rifle or shot gun and an assault weapon would be the best choice. I like the AR but the good ol AK or SKS are excellent choices. But please go to a range and learn to handle it well. then gather up at least 200 rounds and stick it in a closet somewhere. till the country needs it.
