Enough with the “Clintons played the race card in the South Carolina Primary” long since debunked a million times over – put it to rest.
I too will write in John Hatch’s name November 4th for making the only sane comment on any blog, anywhere!

Kudos to Arch Stanton and HR presenting corrections. I saw the Moyers interview and Wright came off as very rational. Both men were extremely respectful and Moyers and Wright had a common link and met years before when President Johnson had his heart surgery. It was a great interview.

I think Ed Herman and David Paterson covered all the bases and their article is extremely well document. I think Martha represents a strain that I’ve seen on the left who wants to only present Obama in a narrow context — as a shill of the ruling class. However that narrow context ignores the role racism has played in this campaign.

In fact many African American didn’t support Obama until after his win in Iowa and when the Clintons started playing the race card in the South Carolina primary.

The authors are correct that Hillary Clinton played the race card too late after she started losing in February. Essentially she lost the race after Wisconsin but she stayed in the race hoping to steal the primary from Obama by ratcheting up the race baiting.

I think when the McCain campaign gets desperate as the campaign gets closer to 11/4 that the Republican will play the race card. It’s their best hope to pull an upset. However you can bet the Left will blame it on Obama tilting to right as the reason for his defeat. Only this time around I think if the Left plays that card they will have a very hard time convincing African Americans that racism played no role.

I’m only a humble Canuck with no vote to steal, but when Obama ran away from the Reverend whose comments were not shocking to me (Pat Robertson advocates the assassination of an elected leader etc., etc.) I began to lose respect. Bush Admin crimes need to be dealt with. Israel needs to be dealt with. Iran needs to be left alone. Iraq needs to be reconstructed (New Orleans too). Afghanistan needs to be rebuilt and then left alone. Incursions into Pakistan need to end. Sub-prime criminals need to be brought to justice. 9/11 need to be properly investigated. Americans need health care and education, jobs and homes. Sure Obama would be better than McCain. But not much.

Martha, I believe your assertion that Wright compares gay sex to murder is a stretch. The only paragraph of the Moyers interview (from PBS site) that contains the word murder follows. It is not even close to being a comparison of gay sex to murder. Wright is speaking of actions FORCED onto others.

You’re saying flip a coin; hope God blesses the winning team, no. That the perception of God who allows slavery, who allows rape, who allows misogyny, who allows sodomy, who allows murder of a people, lynching, that’s not the God of the people being lynched and sodomized and raped, and carried away into a foreign country. Same thing you find in Psalm 137. That those people who are carried away into slavery have a very different concept of what it means to be the people of God than the ones who carried them away.”

Let me add one more thing. Wright? Homophobe. Check out the Bill Moyers Journal April interview where Wright compares gay sex to murder. And for those of you who have never attended a Black church, no, he is not typical and most of us seeing a preacher thrust his hips at the front of a church wouldn’t walk out of the church; we would inform him he was being voted out.
