Nice article.

Basing you culture on the thought that 'everything will get better' is a very dangerous thing, especially when we get lazy.

Gary your trek down memory lane (land) could rightly be called the making of an American Radical.

Once you are there, you can never go back. I keep going back to Ibsen's Enemy of the People. Somehow it seems to resonate during this time.

Climate and weather are two different things climate is long term weather is short term as Richard Alley told me not to forget. This is where you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. The ice in the North Pole is melting and doing it much faster than first thought why climate. Of course we can listen to Rush or Inhofe or Exxon to feel better and stay in pretendland. In not to many years we will start to lose ports, cities because of sea level rise. Crops in a few years a bit of a problem. If you are older it should be easier to make the hard choices so the kids have a chance but that doesn't seem to be the way it is in many cases, why. I am sure volumes could be written on that why but not that hard to figure out. That speech that one man made last night at the convention where he said Bush didn't ask us to do anything was very good and didn't he say something about working together and again that is where that doesn't seem to be the way it is in many cases. So far I don't see it but one thing for sure it will change. The sad part there is still time and many who can work together and the know how want to try and of course the money power people who still think pretendland is the answer and working together is OK as long as they get to be the Boss, pathetic.

Well at least we can revel in the fact that the US beat China in the Olympics.

China 51 Gold
US 36 Gold

Total medals.
US 110
China 100

And we would have beat China even more if Michael Phelps could have won 9 silver medals instead of those 8 gold medals...

Go USA!

Gary,

You need to swap some of that reality shit for a dose of good old American La-La-La-la-La. It won't hurt a bit, I promise. Just sit down in front of the TV with a six-pack and turn off that trouble-making brain. Soon you'll forget and all will be well. (Better get another six-pack just in case.)

Nighty-nite.

Good article. Thanks much.

We are driving into the future by watching our rear-view mirrors, and we've now seen all the images in the mirror disappear. For exactly the reasons you describe, Gary.

Nice writing.

Also, someone said, or I dreamed it: The past is dead; the present is self-aggrandizement; and the only thing we have and can share is our dreams for the future.

Thanks Gary. I had thought sanity had disappeared from the world along with the world itself. Please live forever.
