Hey, Mike. I enjoyed your style of writing when you were talking about the US. But I'm starting to get nervous now that you mention Australia. Our politicians promised us in last November's election circus that the "sub-prime" woes in America would not affect Australia, you know, supposedly cos we've got an invisible economic forcefield around our little island and nothing can get in. I just don't know who to beLIEve any more. On the one hand, I've got this crackpot Mike Whitney who actually has the audacity to write well-researched and quoted articles from respected economists and to tell it like it is. On the other hand I've got Rupert and his mates telling us that everything is OK and that our little economy has nothing to do with the rest of the world. I think I'll take the Luke Skywalker line. I kinda like forcefields...........

By the way, they made me read Grapes or Wrath in high school down here. I wasn't concentrating too much at the time, but I might revisit the book to see if I can get some tips about living off the land, like eating stale bread and grease. I'll try it on the family tonight, just in case that crackpot is right after all!

PS at least we have the Olympics to keep us warm for the next two weeks, cos the heater will have to be turned off.

The stage is set for a global feudal empire. There will be only the Master Race and the slaves. Fortunately the masters have seen to it that Earth will soon be incapable of supporting human life. Perhaps some other life form will evolve to a level which will allow the creation of an actual civilization. Or not.
