hp,
i too thought that iran may have procured wmd. thus their reactor(s) may not be used to manufacture.
we all knew ab bombing of osirak reactor '81. iranians knew of it also. iran s'mhow got ready to answer US/IOF threats/attack.
russia also likes to have independent iran. i think, i'm not sure, that russia sais it wd enter the war if iraq's attacked.
so, for some time now, i thought US/IOF is just bluffing.
i'v posted that s'mwhere/when. thank u

I think Iran has nukes and Saudi Arabia too.
Iran bought a dozen X-55 long range (3,000 kilometer) nuclear capable cruise missiles from Ukrain in 2001. Seven years ago. Illegal transaction, but transacted nonetheless. This is a known fact.
The Ukraine defense minister said, on the record, that "hundreds of missiles have gone missing."
Russia had, at one time, 28,000 nukes and "decommissioned" some 18,000 to reach their current 10,000 nuke level.
Out of 18,000 "decommissioned" nukes, it's not hard to believe a nation with billions and billions of dollars (Iran, Saudi) could "procure" one or a dozen just as with those X-55 cruise missiles.
It also does not go unnoticed that those cruise missiles are missiles which ARE NOT defensible by the Israelis.
Not to mention the SS-N-22 Sunburn supersonic missiles the Iranians possess. Also nuclear capable. Also indefensible.
Just today, Bush announced new diplomatic relations with Iran.
Someone blinked.

Let's assume that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons. If that is the only deterrent available to them to maintain their own sovereignty and to pre-empt an Iraq-style invasion by the troops of a nation that publicly threatens them, do we have the right to deny them that deterrent? I've compared it to a serial rapist demanding that his next intended victim be disarmed of her pepper spray or handgun.

Also, I don't share this James Bond-fantasy view of the world as populated by evil geniuses bent on world destruction. Ahmedinejad is an idiot for saying the things he has about Israel, but is he or anyone else in Iran really so bothered by Israel that they would commit national suicide to attack them? Convincing an ignorant, desperate, angry individual with nothing to lose to become a suicide bomber in the name of religion is one thing; making it a matter of foreign policy is quite another.

The issue would be more clear-cut if not for the stupid rhetoric coming out of Iran that plays into the hands of the neocons.

finally i read the famous "right to bear arms". perhaps, in well- developed democracy, this right should not be bestowed on individuals.
the right to bear arms on int'l level shld be honored.
switzerland comes close to being a well-developed democracy. US structure of governance, along w. its econo-military-diplomatic might, permits uncle sam to control domestic and alien pops to a degree that no other land/empire approaches. thank u
