It will be perpetual until such time as the "war on terror" ends. Based on past history with the perpetual war machine called the American state, this will likely go on for decades. It is certain to continue for the next eight years. The American state is about little else than control of the world's population. It uses all tools at it's disposal - economic manipulation, cultural domination, legal straitjacking, and brute force, to achieve it's agenda, which is to perpetuate and increase both it's power and the power of it's allies (multinational capitalism).
