Donald Hawkins, when was the last time you read the fine and not so fine print on that loan contract? Or did you just listen to the nice guy at the bank making out the loan for you?

If you have ever seen a contract for those subprime loans, you'd know you should have taken some banking courses beforehand in order to understand the language they use in those things. Your average Joe in the street would not be able to understand it. Your bank buddy wants to lend you the money so that he can turn around and sell it and take his vacation in the Bahamas.

This entire catastrophe is a direct result of the so-called free market! Capitalism cannot succeed. It is based completely on self-interest and greed. It will ALWAYS enrich a few to obscene extremes while destroying everyone else.

Fascism is a direct result of unchecked capitalism. The two are inextricably bound together.
Global feudalism is almost here and it is brought to you by the "free" market of fascist capitalism.

To cawdor,

You still have faith in the "free market". The current mess is the result
of deregulating the financial/banking system. All the checks and balances that was put in place after the crash of 1929 was removed
beginning with Reagan and completed by Clinton.
The government now is Wall Street and Wall Street is the government.
Rubin, Paulson, Sumner , Green Span and Bernanke the all from Wall
Street and are behoden to it.
What we need now is an honest government that put the regulations
back and enforce them. If you say free market that means big business/Money will have a free hand against the regular Joe/Jane.

“....on the earth [there will be] anguish of nations, not knowing the way out because of the roaring of the sea and [its] agitation, while men become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken." Luke 21:25,26

Mankind's problems are stockpiling and people do not know the way out. The reason is the solution does not lie with men/women:

1. Some of us DON'T CARE about finding a solution and in fact are the main cause of the problem. Generally speaking, these are our "rulers" or elites who are making a killing (financially and literally!) out of the current system.

2. Others of us WANT to find a solution but search in the same place as the source of the problem - man-made institutions and philosophies (politics, economics, corporate organised religion etc).

It's times like these I'm glad our representatives are heartless scumbags. We may not have the money, but we do have the guns. Most bullies just beat you up and take your money, we at least give IOUs.

The banks did the same thing the consumers all did. Things looked great. Tomorrow was going to be a brighter day, so we bit off more than we could chew today, knowing that we could swallow it tomorrow. If you carry considerable credit card debt (like me) you're just as guilty as the bankers, but dumber.

It's amazing how that one idea of 'Things will be even better tomorrow', which us americans are proud to hold, turned out to be the most dangerous and irresponsible thought in centuries. The only way that idea can be good is if we force ourselves to believe it up to the moment of our deaths. If anyone falters, the whole system, built on dreams and wishes, crumbles. So I say, keep the dream alive. Surely we'll continue our Roman modeled system, and we'll kill and steal from those we've deemed evil so that us citizens can dream merrily along.

this is for men only: When women wear long pants it means they r not for sale or on sale.
so, don't u be asking.
i also got good advice from my wife: i was angry today so she told me, Why don't u tie yourself up in knots, you'll feel a lot better! that was just after i read ab morris wanting to nuke iran.
as for finances, well, i finished last in my class. good news ab that is that the crooks (clergy, educators, pols) never got to me.
thank u.

Ron Paul has been warning of this collision for decades and now it will come to pass becuase people want the government to do something instead of letting the free markets deal with it

This catastrophe is the failure of government mismanagement of the economy to thwart the free market for 3 decades

Martin Waller, writing in The Times two days ago (p37) says (in passing): 'Wall Street is worried about the cost of bailing out the 300 banks expected to fail by 2011.'

300?!

Why is there no blood on the carpet?

Why are the people responsible for this not being asked what they want for their final meals?
