Exactamenty, hp. When somebody is determined to kid theirself, reams of exposes will not change their thinking. As Ramon "Zaoco" Perez usta remind everybody: "Human Animals are Self-Liars".

All these liberals keep wringing their hands about this issue, that issue: "Aren't we smart, we understand the intricacies of how the Fourth Estate has failed to meet the expectations of the Founding Fathers, how Corporate Influence has gradually infiltrated and debased this once Proud Profession". Yes, yes, and the American Revolution was about Liberty from British Oppression:)

I guess if people are addicted to Reading, there are worse ways to make a living than to be a purveyor of Reading Material. But at some pt, like going on seven yrs since 911, more than five since ShocknAwe, why haven't most of these Bemoaners gotten the message? Why aren't more ready to hang up the phone and try to do sthg about this crap?

Far as I'm concerned all this rap about Media this, Media that, "media reform" (uno sueno guajiro, like trying to find a cure for Amputations), all this highly intellectual stewing is just a slick way of avoiding the issue.

There ought to be mass demonstrations in front every Israeli consulate in the country. There ought to be Civil Disobedient blockades of the entrances to offices of the various branches of the Zionist Thought Police, i.e., the Fed, the JCRC's, the ADL, Council of Prexies etc etc. For starters.

I know, I'm dreaming so forget I said it. But if Media is the problem, why not start ongoing CD at the employee entrances to newspaper offices & TV stations? "Prostitutes Out of the Hood!"

Naw, that ain't the game that's being played, which is about Highly Qualified Professionals having Respectful Disagreements. "No need to be rude, I didn't interrupt you so please let me finish".

"Any more questions? No? Then join me in giving our distinguished panel a rousing round of applause", & everybody stands up, shakes hands all around, then moves to the lobby for the booksigning/selling.

And the carnage continues. And the lies. But ain't it great, we live in America where we can complain all we want, especially now that the Virtual Plantation has been dynamized by Obamania, there's no chance of any really radical system-challenging movement being launched, since anybody who dares criticize BO is obviously Some Kind Of A Nut, most likely motivated by Latent Racism, or else is a Self-Hating Black krypto-antiSemite.

The problem is not the political economy of the media, but the political economy of secrecy, of which the former is but a part.

Thanks for the review. Media reform, I would agree, is crucial. It's right up there with jobs, tax reform, energy, health care, education, environmental protection, trade and defense spending. In fact, one could argue that it's the #1 issue in that those other issues won't get the attention (of the masses) without media reform (broadcast and cable television media, in particular).

"On issues where journalists lean left, it’s where bottom-line considerations aren’t affected — women’s, gay, lesbian and abortion rights, civil liberties, affirmative action, and so forth."

And the population as a whole leans left (often *way* left) on those "wedge issues," which - sadly - are about the only things that separate the two major political parties. Getting more people to realize that will require media reform. So, I'm grateful to McChesney and other folks who are fighting this worthy battle.

hohum. moree blahblah about "The Media". Back in 2002 McChesney, Solomon, Nichels etc had sthg to say, but now it's just repetition of repetition.

Until these phony"progressives" start copping to the fact that "The Media", just like both houses of Congrease/both major parties, incl. the so-called "progressive democrats" (sic) are own & controlled lock stock & bagel by the highly organized ZPC/BG, I'm no longer listening.

If you want to understand the role of "media" in a capitalist society, read Goebbels' "Diaries", maybe a little Edward Bernays, Machiavelli's "The Prince", and then Louis Althusser's writings on the "Ideological State Apparatus".

All you really need to know is that "the media", like Academia, Hollywood, pro sports, the music "industry" etc are components of the Capitalist State, and the US State is at present owned & operated by Big Jewry.

But I understand the problem of those who rush out to get more blahblah explanations from these "Media Experts": it's not your fault, it's the conditioning you've been subjected to that makes it so hard for you to connect the dots, even when the facts are right in front of you.

If I had time I'd love to break it down so the avg. peasnick could get a handle on it, but I got my own priorities. At this pt, you gotta offer me some money; flattery is nice but don't pay the bills.
