"But some plot to undermine the European democracies, with Bush going “heh-heh-heh”, Bela Lugosi-style? I doubt it."

Perhaps not now, but I will almost guarantee that those of us in the current generation of Americans will live to see the day that American and British agencies work to undermine the European Union (which I know Britain is a part of, but let's see how long that lasts).

In the Capitalist game, only one power player is allowed. A "friendly" rival and competitor is a still a rival and competitor.

That 500 billion tax free dollars is to be found no place else on earth.
We're not talking reefer from Mexico here.
Half a trillion tax free dollars.
That's the stuff secret armies, private air fleets and underground installations are made of.

I would think that this is not so much a conspiracy as the competing interests of different agencies. The military probably would like to put an end to the drug traffic but their problem has been that since the US has destroyed the economy, the farmers often have no choice but to grow poppies, since nobody but the drug dealers can afford to buy anything. On the other hand, in the murky world of insurgents and intelligence services, drug dealing is well established and I'm sure the Taliban and the CIA and all the other groups are in on it. But some plot to undermine the European democracies, with Bush going "heh-heh-heh", Bela Lugosi-style? I doubt it.
