In the early 1960's. His name was Mac and he lived up the street from me in San Antonio, Texas, before we both went East for college. Mac liked to characterize Providence as a penal colony without fences, but that was long ago. And he married one of the best looking ladies at Pembroke and they lived happily for some time after in San Antonio, where Mac was a very successful lawyer and Reagan Republican. He died several years ago, and last time I checked, she was a practising and successful lawyer -- about whose politics I'm totally in the dark -- there. I remember a spring weekend taking the train south to Provs, and getting SO drunk on Gansett, while my best friend's room-mate, Larry Small, with green-dyed hair, danced topless out on some beautiful green place filled with Pembrokers and countless guys. Then train-ing back up to Cambridge the next morning so hungover I thought of three new and astounding thesis topics. But hp. This is just a reminiscence from long, long ago. Needless to say, the Chuck empties into Boston Harbor, so you were in what? I conclude the BSchool. But Happy Memorial Day, dear readers. I'm remembering an uncle I never met whose P-38 apparently fell apart while he was delivering it to US Forces in the Pacific, in 1944 or 1945. The family story is he told my father that he wasn't afraid when flying at nite because, strangely enough lately, when he pushed the cockpit back he could hear the angels singing.
